Interesting Discussion on Hybrids. EVs, and the Like

On Science Friday today they had a pretty intensive discussion on hybrids, with folks from GM, Road and Track, and Sherry Boschert, the founder of the San Francisco Electric Vehicle Association. According to Ms. Boschert, it pretty doesn’t matter what the energy source for the electricity of a plug-in hybrid/electric car is, it’s still cleaner than a car which runs on straight gas/diesel.

They also had a brief interview with the X-Prize folks, who’ve started a 100 MPG car X-Prize.

Not surprisingly, many of the folks were a bit at odds with one another. They were particularly savage about some of the comments that the GM exec made.

We watched a short blurb on green cars a short while ago, and our manual transmission Toyota Corolla was #6 on the list (ahead of some hybrids). Link. And we drive our car around North America for our vacations instead of taking planes.
