Hookah: do the metal/glass screens work?

I love to smoke hookah. It's the only form of tobacco I allow myself to enjoy, as it's a bit of a pain in the ass to set up, so I don't do it too often. I've found, though, that it takes quite some time to get set up. Poking all those little holes in the foil is a waste of time; there has to be a better way to do this.

I found some metal and glass screens on the internet. Do these work as well as foil? Do they work at all?

And if anyone has other tips on cutting down the amount of time it takes to setup, I'd be happy to hear them.

Metal screens work fine on other pipes, cannot say about this particular type.

This isn't like a screen for filtering out the ash, this is like a screen for supporting the charcoal that is used to heat the tobacco.
