RIP Vampira (Maila Nurmi)

I haven't found any news articles as of yet but blogs are reporting that Maila Nurmi has passed away.

Damn! I just discovered her website the other day:

http://www.vampirasattic.com/

It's the only authorized site, with some rare pix and videos. Now I'll never get to e-mail her.

She appeared, without Vampira makeup, in Bert I. Gordon's the Magic Sword. She looked pretty good without the Morticia-style getup (and she actually strapped her breasts DOWN in costume as Vampira, not up, like Elvira/Cassandra Peterson)

So what was the scandal that threatened her career in the 1950s? I got the idea somehow it was either escort services or Communist sympathies.
