I went to see El Orfanato the other night with some friends. I’m not a fan of horror movies, but I’d heard it was very good. Indeed, I thought it was very well done.
“Happy” ending aside, I was very upset by the resolution, not because it didn’t make sense, but because it was so very horrible when Laura (and the audience) finally realized what had happened. I kind of wish I hadn’t seen it now.
I’ve been brooding over whether it could have really happened (if so, the police investigation was indescribably lame) and what Tomas intended to do when he set off the horrible chain reaction (if he even existed). I guess Laura had already started it earlier, the last time she saw Simon, but Tomas really added momentum. Unless it wasn’t really Tomas. (It couldn’t have been Simon, could it?) Argh!
Did anyone else see it? Did anyone else react this way?
