Does anyone else think Julie Andrews is hot?

Prompted by some references on the other thread I started, which I won't link to because some folks may not want to wade through that thread to pick out the Julie Andrews-related bits, I'd like to know if anyone else thinks she is or was hot.

I always really liked her when I was a kid. I had never really thought about it until I was discussing Julie Andrews with my wife and she pointed out that maybe I have a thing for Mary Poppins that goes beyond an appreciation of her singing, acting, and childcare talents.

I realize attraction can be inexplicable, but am I seriously bent for wanting to show Maria the etchings in my flat in Salzburg?

I suffered through the entirety of "S.O.B." for the sole and only purpose of seeing Julie Andrews bare-breasted. It was worth it. Yes, Julie Andrews is elegant. And I will always remember her as hot. Maybe not Jane Fonda hot, but ... hot.

I don't personally think Julie Andrews is hot. But her movie image as clean and refined appeals to a certain subset that are turned on by the idea of either perfect wholesomeness, or it's defilement.

To properly answer this, I'd need to know what she does at the end of an oral session.

She's a lady. Ladies can be hot, but it's a private hot, not a hot you see walking down the street for all the world to see.

I'm sure she leaves Blake Edwards stammering and gasping for breath.

Hot as all get out. I can't believe film producers preferred to have Audrey Hepburn lip-sync her way through My Fair Lady rather than have Julie Andrews, who starred in the stage version, sing it. Audrey was beautiful, no doubt, but Julie was sexy.

I'd so hit it, even today.

As a kid, between her and Juliet Mills from Nanny and the Professor, I was...distracted and wondering why I didn't have a nanny.

So yes, hot. Elegant, but hot.

Later in life I released she was attractive, not just talented and a nice person. I sometimes think of The Postman when the army is watching The Sound Of Music every night. They almost riot when the Sound Of Music is not played one time. I couldn't think of another film that would be as nice to watch in those conditions.

I don't think she's ever been more sensual or alluring than in The Americanization of Emily, and even then, she wasn't my cup of tea.

I need to dissent. She was a nice looking Lady, but she was never hot. Not even in S.O.B.

Now Juliet Mills was really pretty and hot.

Another vote for hot.

One of my regrets is that while I was working for ConEd she was doing Victor/Victoria on Broadway, and I didn't take the time to get tickets to see her. It wouldn't matter whether the show was any damned good - just to have been able to see her live would have been something.

I like Ladies. English ones among them. Deborah Kerr? Rrrrr. Jean Simmons? Mmmmm.

Curiously, I never thought That Way about Julie until I saw her in white tie & tails in Victor/Victoria. I lke tomboys, too, you see. Especially 1930s tomboys, although that movie had about as much to do with the 1930s as Little Caesars Pizza does with the Roman Empire.

Still, nothing beats Valerie Hobson in riding habit, throwing a hissy fit because her boots haven't been polished properly.

Two bits from the Sound of Music.

When she dances with the Captain and gets all out of breath and flustered, and when she comes out of the lake and is completly wet.

Very very hot.

Dude, you do realize some of us may lust after silver screen stars? Anne Sheridan, Jean Crain, Gene Tierney, for example, or the stars that Beware of Doug listed. Let's be honest: for the majority of the public lusting after a movie star is about as likely to prove to be anything beyond a fantasy as lusting after fictional characters. What does the reality matter, when we're talking about a fantasy on that level?

Not hot at all. A wonderful talent, though. It's always pissed me off that she got screwed out of playing Eliza in the movie version of "My Fair Lady," even though it was given to the smoking-hot Audrey Hepburn (except for the part about the singing).

She's hotter than Dame Wendy Hiller, who managed to get the role of Eliza in the 1938 movie version of "Pygmalion," but that's not saying much.

And Myrna Loy. Ever see The Thin Man or The Best Years of Our Lives? Wow.

Sorry for the diversion. Back to Julie Andrews. She's not Myrna Loy Wow, but pretty Wow nonetheless. Her short haircut in Victor Victoria just really does it for me.

Blake Edwards once told the story of how they met on a talk show I watched. He had trashed her at a party by saying "she's so damned sweet she probably has violets growing between her legs". She heard of what he had said and sent him a bouquet of violets saying "I picked these for you". He was embarassed and invited her to dinner to apologize and evidently ended up picking violets for the next 40 years.

Hot? Not overly. Desirable, beautiful, sweet, worthy of undying devotion? Yes!

On one or two ISIRTAs (long before "S.O.B.") they played Julie's songs from "My Fair Lady" with certain words beeped out.

"All I want is a (beep) somewhere,
Far away from the cold night air
With one enormous (beep)
Oh wouldn't it be loverly? ...

Lots of chocolate for me to eat
Lots of coal makin' lots of heat
Warm (beep), warm (beep), warm (beep)..."

"If you're in love, (beep) me"

From ISIRTA's hymn/march-like song, "Julie Andrews, I Love You!"
Quote:
(spoken intro) Who is the one who sets our temperature soaring?
Who is the one that sets our passions roaring?
Who is the queen of the silver screen that we all dream about?
Who is the moll, the living doll that we all dream about?

(sung)Iiiiiiiiiiiiiits
Julie Andrews! (Ahhh ahh ahh)
When I breathe your name,
Julie Andrews (Ahhh ahh ahh)
It sets my heart aflame!

....

(spoken)O Julie, Julie! Forgive me for feeling this way about you
when you're so, so clean.
But I've been like this ever since I saw you in Mary Poppins,
and you floated down with that crinoline spread out around you
and I had an uncontrollable desire to look up!
O Julie, Julie, you're more voluptuous than Twiggy,
more primitive than Katie Boyle.
You're sexier, sexier by far than Raymond Baxter.
Every night, I have the same dream that we are alone together,
I watch as you take off your habit and wimple,
and I say, "Shall we?",
and you say "Shall we what?",
and I say "You know"
and you say "I don't"
AND YOU DON"T!!

(sung) Julie Andrews, (Ahhh ahh ahh)
Untouched by human hands
Julie Andrews, (Ahhh ahh ahh)
When you speak I understand...

Yes, she is incredibly hot. I have always had a thing for Mary Poppins. She has such a combination of qualities. Beautiful face, the voice of an angel, and she looks soooo good in business attire. I always wished she was my nanny. But I think I would be going out of my way to be naughty just so she would spank me.

There was a time a couple of years back when we were watching The Sound of Music a couple of times a week for a couple of months (my young son liked it).

I realized one of my big problems with the movie (that I mostly enjoy) is that it wasn't credible to me that the Captain would fall in love with Maria as she was depicted in the movie. Maria was supposed to be a novice in the convent but she looks every bit of the 30 years Julie Andrews was when the movie was made.

Julie Andrews is talented and apparently smart and has a good sense of humor as well but hot? Not.

Along with many other women, Julie Andrews was a very pretty woman, all throughout her life, and among pretty women, more attractive than most.

However, unlike most of the other pretty women, Julie Andrews also became beautiful. Real beauty is something that very few women ever have, and even then, it is something that developes over a period of time.

True beauty is more than just physical attractiveness, and more than just stunning facial features. Real beauty has all of these things and more. It is also a poise, a style, a presence, an inner quality that is visable to the inner eye of the beholder.

Age does not hinder real beauty - it sets upon it comfortably.

Julie Andrews is, and has been for quite some time, a beautiful woman.

Lagomorph -- I also saw The Sound of Music many times when my kids were young and could watch the same movie over and over. I may be over-analyzing things, but I think that part of Maria's allure is that she has a past. I agree that she is a bit old to be a novice, but women do get the call later in life sometimes, often after searching for and not finding meaning in other pursuits. I had a friend in college who joined an order later in life. Maria never really fit in at the convent (which makes the corruption of a nun theme somewhat more palatable to the audience). I think the implication of past transgressions adds to Maria's allure.

Regarding Maureen O'Hara, I'm completely in agreement -- majorly hot, plus knows trout fishing, too.

Further off-topic -- I never understood the fuss over Grace Kelly until I saw Rear Window. I could watch that movie every day, just to see her. What an amazing beauty.

I didn't know until just now that she's a Dame of the British Empire. At 72, she is still stunning.
