I love geography though and I was very surprised by some of my answers.

I got 409,660. I made it to level 9, but made some bad calls on the Very Hard World Cities. After practice last time I played this, I could make it to level 11, but never got to 12.

Sub Saharan Africa knocks me down.

And for some odd reason I have a mental block about New Zealand. I know where it is, I look over there and see it and then I click on New Guinea.

I got as far as level 10, with 419525 points. It helped that two of the "hard" cities were ones I've lived in, and another was one I've visited a few times. Fun game though!

I am completely unfamiliar with any island nation not in the Caribbean or Mediterranean that is not named New Zealand, Japan, or Madagascar and don't know a damn thing about Sub-Saharan Africa

Sub-Saharan Africa and some of the island groups are my weaknesses. Even for the Caribbean islands I know, the map resolution isn't enough to see them.

I think this is the third time this game has been posted here.

344,487 points by the end of level 10.

*sigh* At one point in early high school, I could label nearly an entire map of the world from memory, mostly owing to a combination of me being a strange child and a stunningly inane middle school social studies class. Now I can barely remember all the South American nations, to say nothing of Africa or Eastern Europe.

For those of you who want to bone up on your geography knowledge, I find this site invaluable: http://www.sheppardsoftware.com/Geography.htm

I'm currently pretty darn good with African countries now. However, every time I learn one continent, I forget another, so it's kind of a neverending cycle for me here.

I scored 457, 136 and made it to level 11, where there were 3 questions on Russia and two on China that were places I never heard of. In one of the early rounds where they were asking for locations of famous places, I got Fenway Park. I did not and do not have a clue what city in the US it is located in. I clicked fairly randomly on what somewhere in the north easterly US.

First time, 349,022. Africa kills me. I need to work on that. And I can never remember where the Galapagos are for some reason. They also threw some cities at me I never heard of, but I got to level 10, which can't be too bad. I expected some Dopers would kick my ass, so that doesn't bother me.

That map is way too small to really have a chance of hitting anything accurately, even if you know where these places are. Which I don't.

71,038. I couldn't get past level 3. Apparently, I don't know where Finland is. Or Moscow (Russia is freaking huge, y'all). Or Bolivia. At least I could pick the right continents. Mostly. Ah, hell with it, I suck.

584,033. Level 12 was a killer. The Pacific Island nations get me... Palua, Vanuatu, Micronesia... no idea on those.
I guess I'm the geography geek here for now....

162804 -- completed level 5.

Gotta say, though, that I'm not too embarrasse by being off on Easter Island by 2000K, given that there's nothing to mark that area of the South Pacific.

If you go here, you can play the other versions of the game, as well as the version that USFunds has embedded.

I only got around 170,000. I got mixed up between Ghana and Guyana, they're on 2 totally different continents. The closest hit I had was for Stonehenge, only 15 km away.

Just did it again, got 471,536. Level 11 has a lot of Australia and Russia. Unless you know where every city in Russia is, you're done for. Some were in the Arctic, others all the way east... it was crazy. And since I'm not an Australia native, I don't know which side of that big island some of those cities are on.

Didn't help me any. A born and bred Sydneysider, I was over a hundred and fifty kilometres out when it asked about the Opera House, yet I got Pompeii to within a stone's throw. Although i've improved my score to the 400k's now, I'm still coming up against the damn map resolution.

Could have done better on something bigger than a laptop monitor. Only had one that was really bad, and outright nailed a few. Was 100s of kilometers off on some stuff I know exactly where they are (I've lived in Geneva and Frankfurt, and I got those two in a row) because I couldn't do detail on the map.

I got Palau, Vanuatu and Micronesia all on level 8 or 9. Actually came decently close on those.

I think the resolution is even a bit better. I tried the American map and knew where the cities were but I did very badly on the places and city nicknames.

So even more fun geography games!

thanks

375,712, and I got through Level 10. My proudest moment: clicking within 110km of Windhoek, Namibia. Cyprus doesn't even appear on the fucking map, and I'm supposed to click on it? Grrr....

Fun game, though.

I got asked to click on Easter Island! I can't find that on the "Very Big Book of Maps" that lives on top of my bookcase!

Frustrating game that I have stopped playing - several times now.

I got 430,691. By the time I got to level 11, I was just happy to click in the right county most of the time, and you can be pretty far off even then in places like Russia or China. The map is way to small, though, when you really know where something is.

The best way to handle the size of the map is to change your desktop size to 640x480. Then it will fill your browser window nicely.
