Warhammer Online...anyone in the Beta?

Just wondering if any 'dopers are in the Warhammer Online beta. I got my invite a week or so ago and I've finally managed to get the beta client downloaded (I don't know what madman decided it was a good idea to put the client download into 17 separate sections but it was a real pain in the ass to get down).

There are NDA limitations on what we can say about the game (and I haven't even installed yet), but if any 'dopers are in the beta maybe we can hook up in game and you can show me the ropes.

For non-WAR beta folks...anyone planning to play the game when it ships (in theory) sometime in the 2nd quarter of this year? Feel free to give your thoughts and impressions of the game from any of the preview sites or articles you've read. Myself, reading about the game on GameSpy, it SOUNDS like it could be a very cool MMO game indeed. I actually liked DaoC's RvR style game play with the keeps and castles and things like that...and it sounds like WAR is going to take all that to another level. One of the major problems I always had with WoW was the crappy PvP play they had...it was almost an afterthought seemingly. The BG's were fun...for a while. But they were almost like bolted on mini-games, not part of the real world. I want a PvP/RvR system that integrates fully into the actual game world...not a bolted on mini-game that resets back to zero every time.

If you don't mind me asking, when did you apply, and when did you get accepted? I'm wondering if they just dont want me.

I intend to play when it comes out. I love the details, like some of the character types will actually physically grow more muscular and larger as you level them up. I've noted this before, but one thing I really loved was one of the developers comments during an interview with PC Gamer magazine.

(that's from memory, so I can't say for sure that it's verbatim)

Sounds like an awesome game to me!

I applied when a friend of mine tipped me off they were just starting to take applications...it was over a year ago. And I got accepted a week ago (something like that...been a bit busy lately so haven't followed through until Tuesday night when I started the download).

I wouldn't be discourage. Apparently the beta is VERY structured (unlike a lot of the other alpha/beta's I've been in) and they don't run continuously. They set up a beta to test a specific aspect of the game, run it for a few weeks then take it all down, analyze the results, wack all the characters then rinse and repeat.

My guess is they will do a full blown open beta test a month or so before they are ready to ship the game...you will almost certainly get in at that point.

I'm another old DAoC hand (Mid-Percival, got a thane to RR5, so I'm also a masochist), and I'm really looking forward to WAR. I'm hoping that the instanced scenarios will be a minor part of the RvR calculation, and that open-field fights will predominate.

But hey, I liked the old Emain-zerg as much as the next bloodthirsty Viking, so I might be cool with instances. It will all depend on the implementation.

So, xtisme, what side/class seems to appeal to you. Right now, an Ork Choppa leads in the early returns, but the Squig Herder also seems to look like fun.

For the beta I plan to try out as many of them as I can. I'm leaning toward the Human Witch Hunter right now for when the game ships...the class seems pretty cool. I'll probably refine my decision based on what I find in the beta though.

I'm another person patiently waiting for my beta spot after having been on the newsletter mailing list for about two years now.

Not sure what I'll pick, although I'm pretty sure it'll be some sort of spellcaster. I was a mage in WoW and loved it immensely.

The Dwarf Engineer is cool to (I like the whole gun and explosive thingy...I always loved my gun wielding Dwarf Hunter in WoW best).
