A suprise for me yesterday.

I went into my barn yesterday around noon, and found this!

New Hershey

I knew my goats were preggers, but I didn't expect any so soon. I named her Hershey. Here she is a few hours later.

I hear the turkeys talking in the background. Do they think Hershey is cute too?

Oh, das, who da cutesy widdoe fwoppy-wiggley bebeh goat! How darling is that? I love goats, even when they're all grown up and not as cute but the baby ones have a really unfair amount of cuteness packaged in a teeny body. I love the way they leap around, they're so fearless.

Nice job there FarmerChick, good work--what breed is little Hershey?

Eee, I love baby goats! I visited a horse rescue centre today and they had all sorts of animals, including baby goats. Love is a cuddly wee goat making that little "Bleh-eh-eh!" noise!

I have one pure Toggenburg, her daughter is 1/2 Alpine, the other 2, including Hershey's Mom and Aunt, are 3/4 Nubian and 1/4 Boer. They are milking goats.

Haha! I do have fun with my critters! My mother calls me the Pied Piper of the Farm. All my animals are socialized, I hate it when people are afraid of critters. Lots of people seem to have bad memories of turkeys and chickens, and I do understand that. Kids love coming out here to see the animals, yesterday 3 neighbours brought their kids over to check out the newest, and these guys are all cattle farmers! LOL!

I am glad you guys enjoy my videos, I make them so my friends and family can see what I've been up to. And of course I will be posting more as other babies come!

FarmerChick,

Your goats are so cute.

I had a nubian goat once (a gift) and quickly realized that you need at least 2 goats.

They are very social creatures and if left alone will holler up a blue streak.

My buddies used to kid me by saying that "Ricky" was not really saying "Baaaaaaaaaaaaah."
He was actually saying "Daaaaaaaaaaaad."

I just love the gobblers too. Very cool
Great videos. Thanks for sharing

You guys are quite welcome! I still have 2 more goats to give birth any day now. I will just post them here if you like.

My critters have been great therapy for me. I love how they make me laugh and force me to get up and out of the house at least twice a day!

Another "awwwww" checking in. I'm not a big fan of farm animals (and I live in the middle of farms) but those little guys are very cute. The turkeys "conversing" with you cracked me up, though.

The tan baby's left ear is always up and the black baby's ears are the opposite configuration. May I suggest you name them Lefty and Righty?

It's funny to watch the little tail stumps waggling. They might not know where the milk is just yet, and they haven't figured out all their legs, but they know how to wag those little tails. They are just adorable.

The turkeys were so funny! My husband and I were laughing our rears off at the "*whistle whistle* *gobblegobblegobble!*" call-and-response. He noted that it sounded like they waited for you to stop whistling before responding to you. He was wondering if they were "for eating" (probably salivating at the thought since some of those looked big!) and I couldn't think of anything else they'd be for.

Haha! Lefty and Righty! While that is funny and quite appropriate, my Mom came up with Licorice and Taffy. Kind of goes with the Hershey name too. 2008 may be the "candy" year!

I do have fun with the turkeys. They tend to follow me everywhere if I let them. As you can tell, they are very talkative, they really like music too! I do raise them for eating. Bronze Breasted turkeys are slow growers, so most of that batch was for Christmas. I have kept 11 females and 2 males over the winter. I hope to get them laying eggs, so we shall see.

Adorable kids! The turkeys are hysterical.

I have a question. Since the goats are milk goats, how does that work? Do the kids get weaned early? Or do you just milk the goats right along with the kids nursing?

I am just a small time farmerette, I assume the commercial producers do it differently. I will let the babies nurse as long as they like, I will probably start milking the moms in a couple of weeks. I want to make sure the babies are well fed and doing fine.

Wow. You're a tough mommy!

Licorice has really come a long way from that first video where she just sort of stands there, dazed, while Taffy jumps all over her. I love these videos. I wonder if they'd let me have goats in my suburban NJ house. My kids would love those kids.
