remove phone line crimp--message fixed

Don't know what happened before. I posted but nothing happened. Anyway, I am trying to rewire a phone jack. I need the blue/white:white/blue combination. Unfortunatly, it is covered by a plastic device. I am almost certain the device is a Scotchlok 3M Red Button UR2 Type Phone Connector Wire Crimp. I can't figure out how to get it off. I can find how to put them on, but not reverse the process. Any advice?

By the way, it is the red button type, and is not being used to connect two wires. Only one wire goes into each connector. I'm not sure why they were put there, I guess to protect the stripped copper.

It is a type of IDC or Insulation Displacement Connector. They are one shot, meant to be removed with diagonal cutting pliers. Re color coding, white with blue tracer is pair one tip (+), and blue with white tracer is pair one ring (-).

Thanks,

I wanted to preserve the wire intact, but not having a pair of diagonal cutting pliers, I just snipped them off, stripped them, twisted the ends together, and attached. The fax now works, and thanfully, so do all the other phones in the house. It was my recollection that it didn't matter which wire was connected to which terminal, or maybe I just lucked into it, because it all works as it should.

On some phones, like some Western Electric Touch-Tone models, you can't dial if the polarity is reversed.
