I just got a bloody nose.

It just randomly started bleeding, and then stopped after i let it bleed in to the sink for a few seconds. I seem to always get random nosebleeds.

I did when I drank.
Do you drink?

Nope.

Do you have high blood pressure? That will make your nose bleed.

No, or at least, I don’t think so.

Do people keep randomly punching you hard in the face?

[sub](Sorry, I couldn’t resist. It’s a possible cause, right?)[/sub]

I got random nosebleeds for years in my school days. The new teacher would always ask probing questions suggesting I might have been fighting or beaten at home, etc. But after a while they would realize some people just have nose veins that are more vulnerable.

My sister gets gushers. She has a deviated septum from a close encounter with a basketball when young. She occasionally has to get it cauterized. !!!sizzzzzle!!!

Ugh, nosebleeds!! I especially hate having them at work, I have to walk all the way across the building to get to a bathroom, people gawking at me all the way.

I used to have them alot when the air was dry or I blew my nose too hard. Finally went to a Dr who cured it by cauterizing the thin membrane I have on one side of my septum. Could have saved alot of blood if I would have just gone about 2 years ago!!! :smack:

Dry air, from heating & such, can cause them.

I must be one of the rare weirdos who has never ever had a nosebleed. The thought disturbs me a great deal. My sympathies.

Do you, in fact, possess a nose?

This might be something you’ve overlooked up until now.

Well, now that you mention it, I’ve always wondered why I’d never noticed anyone else’s gills, but I always assumed the clothing was covering it up.

Generally not. I had nosebleeds all the time even when my blood pressure was lower than normal.

I usually get them now when I have a cold. I suspect there’s a blood vessel or two that are inordinantly near the surface, so when my nose is stuffy or dry, it can burst.

It’s mostly a pain. They usually stop in about five minutes, but I have to stop everything, and if I can’t find tissues, it can get messy.

If you don’t know and you’re having random nosebleeds, you might want to get that checked. If it’s high, you need to know; if it isn’t, no harm done.

I’ll second this. I have very dry membranes and get frequent, random nosebleeds. AAMOF, my nose always feels like it’s on the verge of bleeding. I hate my nose.

I’m another one of those who has never had a nosebleed. My brother gets them fairly frequently though, usually when the air is dry.

Captain Socks, honey, if your nose is bleeding it means you’re picking it too much… or not enough!

Put a little lotion on your little finger (or a Q-tip, if you’re squeamish), and coat the inside of your nose with it during dry weather. My wife uses regular vaseline for the same purpose. Works well and no nosebleeds in winter anymore.

That’s exactly what my doc’s PA recommended. I do it on occasion, but it makes me feel even more stuffed up than I usually do. Really uncomfortable. There’s something wrong with my nose.

I got a nosebleed yesterday which was the first time in about 3 months that I have gotten one. I am not especially prone to them but I had surgery to correct a deviated septum 4 years ago and that combined with dry weather and a persistent cough can set it off. The side where I had the surgery bleeds very, very fast and causes all kinds of problems. Imagine your kitchen sink set to drip as fast as possible before it flows into a solid stream and that is what it looks like. Late last fall, I got caught off guard and coughed enough to produce that kind of nose bleed and it was just me and my 1 year old in the car going to pick up my 5 year old from school.

It just so happened that I had to go pick up some fundraising supplies deep within the school that day. My shirt was covered in blood, my face was covered in blood, and my nose was still bleeding profusely. I had nothing but a couple of old magazine pages to clean up with so I stuffed parts of one into my nostril which quickly became saturated and was sticking out with dripping blood. Then, I found a shallow, dirty puddle and used another page to clean my face as well as possible although blood was still all over me and my face was sticky with it.

I had to push a call button to get into the school and the person that answered it was obviously horrified and asked if I needed assistance. I refused because I just wanted to be done with the whole thing and go home. The people in the fundraising room were equally horrified and they helped carry the supplies to my car which looked like a serial killer car by that point. I had an idea how bad it was but I was only sure when I got home. I looked like an illegal alien being hazed the first day at the slaughter house.
