Seismographs and Ambient Tremors
How do seismographs prevent false readings from day-to-day, non-earthquake tremors (such as someone walking into the room, a truck driving by outside, etc.)?

In simple terms a seismograph is composed of two parts:
1) A detector to pick up motion. 2) A recorder. The two are never near each other, except in some museum exhibits where kids can jump on a pad and see the results on the rotating drum behind the window. This link will help explain it. Last edited by Duckster; 04-26-2008 at 09:28 PM. |

Seismographs do pick up events like SUV crashes and wind storms in forested areas.
