Could a fully grown chimpanzee or gorilla rape a human female?

Bit of a bizarre question, but with all the threads lately about animal rape and chimp/gorilla attacks I did wonder if this would be possible. Certainly if a woman "presented herself" I'm supposing it could be done, but human females are not built exactly like female chimps, and chimps are exactly like human males re physical confirmation. Obviously a fully grown chimp has the strength to toss a human around, but if the woman refused to bend over I'm thinking there's really no way it could happen.

Whether it's happened with chimpanzees or gorillas (outside of porn) I don't know, but it seems to have happened at least once with immature orangutans; a chef in the employ of primatologist Birutė Galdikas suffered such an attack. The story is told in the book The Dark Side of Man by Michael Ghiglieri.

ETA: Mrs. Rhymer is presently repeating the words "ew ew ew ew ew ew ew" and is looking for something which with to bleach her brain.

Apparently orangutans occasionallly rape women in Indonesia.
http://www.nytimes.com/books/00/04/0....002waalt.html
This was a captive-raised orangutan, rehabilitated and released into the wild. It was more socialized to humans than it was other orangutans. Contacts of mine in Kalimantan have told me that this wasn't the only time an orangutan has raped a woman; it happens every couple of years to women who work at the orangutan center.

According to this:

http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/m...er/000987.html
a chimp attempted to rape a woman in Nigeria last September, and had succeded in raping 4 women in the previous years.

Quote:
But for her mother luck, a 26year old junior extension worker at Health
Centre, Ugbole Ekiti, Miss Bosede Aina would have been successfully raped by
a wild Chimpanzee, a strange animal that had been terrorizing the people of
the locality for years

Saturday Vanguard gathered that it was not the first time the people in the
area have winessed such a strange happening, at least not less than four
ladies had fallen prey of the strange animal in the remaining three other
neigbouring towns. In the past, especially in towns like Igede, Eyio and
Osin Ekiti and it did it and escaped into the jungle

But this time around luck was not on its side, as the local hunters in the
town did what was humanly possible to demistify it by mobilising themselves
and staying in the bush for two hours before its liveless body was brought
for public glare
I am less than 100% ready to accept news from Nigeria without outside corraboration, since I hear a lot of crazy stuff on line from that country, especially that someone needs to park $400,000,000 (FOUR HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS) in my bank account.

Google doesn't tell me anything about gorilla rape except a bad joke allegedly made by John McCain.

In case it isn't obvious, TMI.

My first thought was no; rape needs communication and threats, because you can't thread a moving, unwilling needle. My second and third thoughts were he could hold her hips still, and ducks rape other ducks and they don't even have hands. So, sure, he could rip her clothes off, knock her down, she'd probably land on her hands and knees, and there you go. The real question is would he be motivated; I wouldn't want to have sex with a female chimp even if she bought me dinner first and signed, "Take me now, you hairless stud!"

My fourth thought is that, after reading the two posts before mine, the beautifully crafted post I wrote yesterday is now pretty lame.

Even if the woman cooperated, a non-human ape couldn't get much penetration. All of the other primates have tiny penes, compared to us.

Tiny in length or girth? When I've seen nature shows of male chimps, their erect penises seemed long enough, but very skinny.

Just in case there's any lingering confusion on this particular point, rape doesn't require any communication or threats. A vagina isn't the eye of a needle and an erect penis isn't thread. No coercion is needed--brute force works.

What about clothes? Would they even register to a non-human?

Even chimpanzee penises are only about 3" in length, and other primates have even shorter penises.

Any adult Great Ape primate has the raw strength to do pretty much anything they want with a human being, and most primate species have been observed demonstrating forcible sexual behavior, including chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans. (I don't know about gorillas; they, tend to be pretty docile). Cooperation or coercion isn't really at issue; the fact is that they could rip your clothes off and force you into any position they wish.

As for the likelihood of interspecies rape: haven't you guys ever seen a male dog trying to stud every bitch, cat, and leg in evidence? For that matter I used to know of a rabbit that would try to have its way with every cat in the house, requiring a belled collar to avert episodes. And of course there is Pepe Le Pew (although his confusion is at least marginally excusable).

It would seem that if a gorilla or other powerful ape approached a woman from behind, when she was already bent over, he could grab her by the hips and do as he pleased. She'd be no match for his strength.

I never learned how to rape.

I could see some kind of molestation/sexual attack, but it doesn't seem like penetration would be all that likely given clothing. Assuming the primate was able to get off the clothing, would it even occur to the primate to do so? Maybe someone with a skirt on would be in trouble, but jeans? Dry humping / frottage seems the most likely scenario.

Suppose she'd been skinny dipping in a pond....

The other problem would be the primate recognizing her vagina. IIRC at least some other primate female genitalia undergo visible changes when they enter estrus.

When it comes to rape ANY penetration is too much if you ask me. It's not the size of the penis that matters, it's that it's an unwanted intruder.

I can see no problem with an adult ape (of any species) simply tearing the clothes off a human female and raping her if he was motivated to do so - the question would be, would a male ape ever be motivated to rape across species lines?

Give that adult males of H. sapiens have been known to screw/rape dogs, sheep, and Og knows what else I don't think it's too far-fetched to consider that other apes might do the same. As viscerally disgusting as it sounds, I'm pretty sure, based on human activity with animals in general, that some male human has had sex with some female ape at some point. Particularly apes that have been raised with a great deal of human contact might not be daunted by clothing (they might be accustomed to wear clothes themselves and thus familiar with them as things that could be discarded/peeled off). Apes are pretty smart compared to everything besides us, I think a horny and motivated male could figure out where the desired orifice is located.

I'd also like to point out that apes are by no means restricted to "doggie-style" from behind penetration. Gorillas have been known to indulge in oral sex and bonobos are known for doing just about anything with just about any variation you can imagine.

My apologies if I seemed to imply otherwise, as that was not my intention.

I happened into this thread merely to mention a favorite Charles Addams cartoon:

A huge male gorilla is striding through the jungle carrying an unconscious blond woman, when, coming into a clearing, he spots a female gorilla accompanied by two baby gorillas. The male's comment is:

"Uh-oh."

None of the above should be construed as approving of, or making light of interspecific primate misbehavior in the stated context.

Primate Rape

This is an old post, but being I just stumbled into it, I guess I can put my two cents into it....having spent a great deal of time with primates myself...

One thing to note is that in the wild, primates have to spend a great deal of their time having to look for food. Then there's grooming. For a female, taking care of her infant takes a lot of energy and for males, jocking for position in the social structure. All this takes a great deal of their mental ability and time. Take any one factor away and you have a bored primate who will start to come up with incredible things. For example, when Jane Goodall began feeding the chimps at Gombe, they began to exhibiting behaviours not seen in other groups, like infighting. Idle hands is the devil's work. Wild orangs with feeding stations gives them time to do things like...raping a worker.

So, a captive primate has all the time in the world to think, that's why they are masters at escaping from sanctuaries. They don't have to think about the basics....that being said...

Orangutan rape - as stated in this thread, it has been documented that male orangutans have been known to rape or try to rape human females. One tried to do this to actress Julia Roberts but he was stopped before anything could be done. www.salon.com/books/review/2001/08/23/primates

On another note, a FEMALE orang was used as a prostitute in a village in Indonesia.. http://www.thefword.org.uk/blog/2007/11/if_turning_an_o

Orangs as well as other primates are very very smart, they get it - they know where certain body parts are...I can't prove it, but I'm sure they look as us as being similar to them...and under our pants has to be what they have as well.

Orangs have small penises, but as with humans, a small penis can do whatever a large one can do. And they, males and females, have been known to have sex in every which way with each other.

Orangutan females have been known to have forced sex with their own infants, weeks after just giving birth to them. This is why you don't know what the mind of a primate is like if it's locked up.

Gorillas - in the wild, gorillas are very to their group. I've never heard of a gorilla rape in the wild. Even when humans interacted in the 70's with humans, it was never recorded. In a zoo, a lone male, I guess it is possible. Both lone males and females will masturbate, rub their genitals on things, etc.

Remember, these primates are very sexual and very very strong and they have FOUR hands. Two to pin someone down and two more to maul...and a mouth as well with sharp teeth.

Chimps - there have been times where females in heat have presented themselves to their male handlers through the cage. Once a female begins to show signs of being in heat, it is almost impossible to keep as a pet. In the wild, females sometimes forces themselves on to a male, so I could see this happening with a human.

But as a male gets older and hits maturity, he is going to do whatever he can to show a female handler he is the alpha male. This is why they have to be caged. In the wild, chimps have other things on their minds than to think about wanting to rape a human (but there are anomalies, and it can happen). But a caged chimp, if in the right circumstances could easily overcome a female and do whatever, and that's what one tried to do in Russia...through the cage, breaking the woman's arm. Male chimps have been known to attack human males by removing their testicles (which happens between male chimps).

And the penis of a chimp is not as small as one would think...google "penis chimp" and you'll see it's bigger than you would expect. A bonobo's penis is even bigger, speaking of which,

Bonobo - Bonobos are very very sexual, their genitals are bigger and even an infant female bonobo is born with a protruding clitoris. Males, females, adults, adolescents, infants, they all have sex between themselves. At Lola ya Bonobo, the infants constantly try to stick their private parts into the faces of their human handlers as well as every other conceivable thing...and these are the infants. Once they hit 4-5 years or so, they have to be put separate from the caretakers.

The lesson to this is that one has to be careful. We are primates as well and although we may think that our lesser "cousins" are stupid, they are far from it. Once hormones kick in, they don't have the filter humans are built with.

One more thing, in a sanctuary, they separated the males from the females, the areas were about 100 feet away. The females would put their swollen parts against the cages and make noises and the males would jump up and down with erections against the cages. We are all sexual beings and it's very normal, it's nature. It's when we, humans, upset the balance of their existence, you will find anomalies.
