So I’m browsing amazon.com last week and I come across this.
Needless to say, I’m intrigued. I enjoyed the “Dawn” remake very much (not as much as the original, but very well done nonetheless.) Near as I can figure, this went straight to DVD, which isn’t encouraging.
So has anyone seen this? Is it worth owning for a die-hard zombie fan? I have all the Romero’s except “Diary” and I also have the “Dawn” remake–should I add this?
It is horrible. Don’t even bother. It is only a Living Dead movie in name only. I could go into specifics but I just have one thing to say, vegetarian zombie. Stupid.
I thought I saw a trailer for this when I went to see 30 Days of Night. I’ve been waiting for this movie to be released ever since then and this is the first I’ve heard that it went straight to video. Or did it hit theaters and was such a stinker that it only lasted a week? I liked the remake of Dawn but I didn’t have plans to see Day after I learned Rhames wasn’t reprising his role.
About the vegetarian zombie:One of the survivors gets bit by a zombie (and in this case I use zombie in the loosest definition possible) and turns. Note I didn’t say “begins to turn” because in this movie zombification is nearly instantaneous. Oh and apparently it also gives you Spidey powers allowing you to crawl on the ceiling and jump long distances. Anyway, one of the survivors gets bitten and turns into a zombie. He becomes vicious and attacks one of the other survivors but backs off. One of the group members, the cute female one, posits that since said zombie was a vegetarian when he was alive he still retains the distaste for meat in his zombie form. This now gives the group their very own pet zombie to help fight off the other zombies.
I watched it. I like even bad zombie movies, most of the time.
Don’t bother. It’s not even enjoyable on a campy level.
If you want a crappy straight to DVD zombie flick, check out one of the recent Return of the Living Dead 4 or 5. The film makers used the cost-saving measure of filming in Eastern Europe and dubbing over some of the minor characters’ lines. Plus, you get really cheesy and heavy-handed morals included, like don’t do drugs, or go to raves (because you’ll die and be eaten).
