Century Farm House - Rural Living

I moved back to our family farm in 2006, it was 100 years old in 2007. I live in rural Alberta. This home, like many others in the area, came shipped from a catalogue. It is wood and plaster walls, very solid, with a stone foundation.

I am in the process of stripping the floors, I believe they are ash.

Well our house is from 1890 well the deed was 1890. House was probably build in the decade after. When we bought it, it was in a state of disrepair. We needed to put on a new roof before it was even habitable due to cave in. We had rock foundation and a foot thick walls, almost literally.

My mom on the other hand bought a true barn house, in that it was barn She has sold it though. We are not trying to do what she did, she kept it somewhat time true.

We are basically fighting the old style while incorporating some of it. We had to dig out around the rock footer of the house 2 foot by 2 foot while pouring concrete because we had groundhogs taking up residence under the house. We have however kept a lot of old trim for our new living room, and have some old flooring we are trying to salvage.

As for the rocks, a lot where chipped to fit, so they are making a very nice garden ring when it's complete it will really bring out the yard. Luckily we have a large house or this would be impossible (working on rooms at a time while still living in it)

I really would love to see a picture of the Ash floors when they are stripped, and/or after you stain them.

We have a 1915 Bungalow with all the original woodwork still intact and never painted! The floors were all refinished 18 months ago. Unfortunately the horse hair plaster will need to be repaired in the not too distant future...
