In his new ad, Obama points out the fact that McCain doesn’t use a computer to make him look woefully behind the times. The fact is that due to his torture in Vietnam, McCain can’t do many things that involve fine motor skills of the hands such as combing his own hair. The truth is that is family uses the computer for him and he has started surfing the web to stay abreast with the times with their help.
So, Obamaites. Defend your candidate running this ad.
Not as bad as McCain’s ads stating that Obama advocated sex education for kindergartners, or the other outright lies that are promoted in his ads. Campaign’s getting nasty now. Too bad.
Hair combing is a fine motor skill of the hands? Really? I’m guessing most guys could comb their hair holding the comb in a clenched fist. Can he button his shirts?
Apparently, he cannot raise his arms above his shoulders due to his injuries while a POW. That would limit his ability to comb his hair.
So far the score stands at:
2 - McCain should use other body parts (1 feet, 1 voice [technically not a body part])
2 - Yeah but McCain is a bastard
1 - “Cite”
I especially enjoy the comment that not being able to do something shouldn’t affect whether or not you should KNOW how to do something. Did you have to type to learn how to use a computer, type emails, and post to straight dope.
I gotta ask, St. Cad. Do you think the ad was made to ridicule McCain’s disability and not to point out how out of touch he is? Do you honestly believe that pointing out his non-use of a computer was meant to be an attack on his disability? Do you think the Obama campaign meant to point out not that he chooses not to, but that his disability won’t let him?
If I thought for one second that the ad was meant to make fun of his disability, I’d be right there with you condemning it. Instead, I see it as McCain’s supporters making McCain’s disability an excuse for not using the computer and trying to shove that thinking on Obama.
Cad, you’re a disingenuous moron. How hard is it to press keys on a keyboard and move a mouse around. You know as well as anyone else that he is not that physically dysfunctional. I work in an office with several disabled people – people much more disabled than McCain and they all manage to figure out how press the little “Send” button.
He’s said himself that he’s learning how to do it. Now do you really think he’s getting physical therapy, or do you think he’s opening an Outlook for Dummies book?
I wasn’t suggesting he use his feet and you damn well know it.
The last thing you should be arguing about is oh poor Johnny “can’t” point his little finger and press down.
Again I say, not knowing how to, and not being able to are two entirely different things – except in your brain apparently.
Oh, but don’t let your retarded “gotcha” tactics getting in the way of opening your friggin’ eyes.
I give this one a 5. Seems like it might have some credibility but likely not true. Where was it stated that he lacks fine motor skills? Can he write? It’s true he can’t comb his hair but that’s because he can’t lift his arms up.
noun, verb, POW.
I’m glad Obama is ripping McCain for that kind of stuff. We can’t afford someone so out of touch with something that is such a big part of our economy.
They want us to feel sorry for McCain for being old, injured, senile and mean tempered. But how can we feel sorry for him unless someone points all this out?
I’m not understanding how an inability to raise your arms above your shoulders means one cannot type on a computer. As I type this, my arms not extended at all.
I’m not one to get caught up in the trivial bullshit that often typifies campaigns, but this retort really does strike me as ridiculous. “McCain can’t use a computer, because he was a POW” is really so over-the-top as to be comically absurd.
Even if true, McCain really has to be careful about playing this up too much. The American people may respect and honor him for his POW experience, but if it seems that he is too lame to be able to handle basic tasks, they may be ultimately turned off by an image of a feeble old man. Remember, being a POW is supposed to be about being tough; not being able to type on a computer is about being weak.
I believe the answer is you and Cad should get a room.
This is the most ridiculous manufactured outrage yet. Are you saying that the controls for flying a fighter jet is easier than pointing your finger? Fucking technology these days, huh?
The man has basic friggin’ motor skills. He is able to use a computer. He just doesn’t have a clue how to.
