Does cortisone help a pulled muscle?

I pulled my hamstring about six months ago, and itís not getting any better. Iíve been trying the RICE (rest, ice, compression, and elevation) process, but it turns out itís hard to rest a hamstring. Iíve cut out all physical activity, but even walking seems to aggravate it.

Years ago I had really bad chronic tendonitis in my wrist, and a shot of cortisone cleared it up overnight. Iím wondering if cortisone works similarly on a muscle pull. Both tendonitis and a pulled hamstring seem to be an inflammation of soft tissue, so I was hoping cortisone might be an option. Iím going to see a doctor of course, but I like to be a little informed on the problem beforehand if possible.
