Is COD safe?

I listed a $2000 item for sale on craig's list. Someone wants the item but would like me to ship it COD via UPS. How safe is COD? I didn't even know people still used it.

I wouldn't do it. Craigslist specifically warns against shipping scams like these.
Directly from Craigslist:
"AVOID DEALS INVOLVING SHIPPING OR ESCROW SERVICES and know that ONLY A SCAMMER WILL "GUARANTEE" YOUR TRANSACTION."

Definitely do not do it. I bought two items on Craigslist and these transactions always make me nervous for some reason. Do not send your item unless you are 110% sure you will get paid, preferably on the spot in cash.

On the one hand, UPS won't release the package without payment, OTOH they won't accept cash so you open yourself up to fake checks etc etc etc.

No sane reason to use COD.

Cod contains moderate amounts of mercury. It is recommended that you have no more than 6 portions per week.

Craigs List also advises against shipping things. The purpose of the site is to buy and sell locally, not to ship things around the country. That's why it doesn't have the same sort of fraud prevention measures that eBay has.

Don't do it.
