2009 Valentine's Day Card Exchange

Okay, people, it’s time again** for the annual Valentine’s Day card exchange thread. The “game” is as it sounds: we exchange real Valentine’s Day cards with other participating members. It’s nice to get a flood of fun mail instead of the usual ads and bills. Permission was granted by Cajun Man… thanks! The rules will work like this:

If you are a current member of the boards AND if you are at least eighteen years of age at this moment, you may send an email to SDMBVDay2009@gmail.com to sign up for the V-Day card exchange. Your email needs to include your username, real name (unless you’re not inclined to share that), and preferred mailing address. You also need to tell me how many cards you’re willing to mail & receive*, as well as (for U.S. members) if you’re willing to send stuff overseas and to Canada. (Canada won’t count as overseas, btw; the Canadians will get in the “North America” mix unless they request otherwise. Yes, I’ll use discretion to try to keep your total postage costs down.) This email from you needs to be sent by 11:59pm Eastern time on Wednesday, February 4th. I will organize and send the lists on or around the morning of the 6th of February (Friday) with complete distribution expected by that afternoon.

Since people seemed to have fun sending e-cards last year, I will make one list of email addresses from those of you who give permission to share that information with the rest of the group. Participation here is not compulsory; however, if you put your email on the list, it would be nice if you send out e-cards, too. Because this part is strictly voluntary, there are no quantity requests permitted for the e-cards. Emailed cards are NOT to replace your assigned in-real-life cards. There will be no exceptions to this rule.

As far as the mailed cards go, it’s up to you what to send. Store bought cards are okay; homemade cards are fine, too. If you want to go wild and crazy with the glitter, go for it. Candy and silly toys are often appreciated. This is all about having a good time. It’s fun receiving the flood of mail, and it’s really fun to see what other dopers came up with.

So, I think that covers everything. If anyone remembers something I’ve forgotten, feel free to speak up.

*Gender specifications/requests are not permitted and will not be honored. Yes, I came up with that one. No, I don’t care if you don’t like it.

** Most of this post was C&Pd from my 2006 OP, with changes made as I saw fit. See here for original.

I hope I don’t sound like a homophobe for asking this but would we be geting cards from our prefered gender only? Or would it be anything goes?

I only ask because I think I might have a hard time explaining to my room mate why I got a V-day card from Fred the Manly Man.

memememe oh memememe!!! jumps up and down

Hey, I’ve never gotten a Valentines card, so I’m game!

Always fun to take part in these weird foreign customs :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m in! I’ll send the e-mail in a moment!

Email sent! I love, love, love getting Valentine’s day cards! I didn’t get a chance to do this last year, so I’m looking forward to it this year.

Now, thinking of the year before last, I’m going to start putting together some cool V-Day cards…

Raises hand: OOO! OOO! OOO! Pick ME! PICK ME!

I am absolutely in!
The e-mail has been sent.

This is sooo much fun every year, I can’t wait!

Well, I dropped the ball last year (darn baby, being born on the 13th!), but I was anticipating this last week and bought fun stuff at Target for homemade ones. Count me in! Email sent.

Me! Me! Email sent!

Woohoo! We have a list!

Anything goes. I don’t care to take the time to figure out the genders of the participants when it’s not obvious. Having said that, the ratio of women to men is often high, so odds could be in your favor that you’ll only trade with women.

OTOH, sometimes I’m mean. :evil smiley:

Don’t hesitate to sign up if you haven’t done so already!

E-mail sent. Thank you for organizing this exchange!

I’m in too. Email sent.

Email sent! Thanks for organizing!

Count me in too! Sending email as we speak!

I love doing this. My lack of card-making talent knows no bounds! I love sharing my anti-talent with everyone. E-mail on the way!

Wait a minute…we have to make these? adds glitter pens and construction paper to her shopping list

No, you don’t have to make them. I’m just a dork with too much time on her hands and too many craft supplies.

If any of you out there are hesitating to sign up for fear of making the list “too long”, don’t worry about it; there are already several requests for 40+ cards.

On the flipside, there is no number too low to be honored. In the past, I’ve received requests as small as 1. Those have been and will be fulfilled.

I’m adding too! Sending email now.
