Michael Steele Doom Watch - A Poll, A Prediction, A Laugh Riot

I know it's wrong to have fun at anyone's expense, but I'll have to, once again, make an exception in Michael Steele's case. The man's been an utter embarrassment since day one [you decide which day in which year that was. There are so many to choose from].

It now seems a heated battle for control between Steele and other RNC power brokers is coming to a head.

Quote:

Robert "Bobby Smooth" Ehrlich, Steele has been in the national hotseat recently for his ridiculous "he said - he said" media feud with right-wing broadcaster and Obama foe Rush Limbaugh and for generally being an obstructionist tool. <<more>>
And to show Steele's still impressive skill at douchechillery we have this little clip.

And this gem.

So, my question is by when do you believe Michael Steele will be shown the door, given the old heave-ho, pushed to the curb, eighty-sixed, thrown out on his keister, given the boot, and pink-slipped? I'll make a bold prediction and say he'll be gone, or at least marginalized into irrelevency, by July 1st.

Whenever the day of Steele's, in my opinion inevitable, demise arrives, it'll be good riddence to a man who doesn't have sense enough to be embarrassed to be the token black face of a party that cluelessly and cynically placed one of the most inept and unqualified politicians in America today in charge of the RNC solely because he's black and Republican. Idiot.

As an aside and just as interesting (at least to me) in both of the articles I cited above is the RNC's special meeting, scheduled for next month, to vote on a resolution officially labelling Obama and the Democratic party socialists. O_o....Wow. I tell ya, the RNC has become funnier than the Keystone Cops. Self-immolation, I dub thee G.O.P.

While they're at it, they should vote on a resolution that officially labels Obama as the Antichrist.

Might as well go all the way.

I have no idea what's involved, but its apparently very difficult to oust a sitting Chair. And of course it doesn't make the GOP look very good, so I doubt he'll be kicked out, though there's obviously some ongoing efforts to marginalize him.

That said, if the GOP looses the upcoming NJ and VA governors races in Nov, I could see him stepping down.

Does anyone disagree with my decision to call him Poochie?

Oh, and NJ is not looking good for them. Cristie is running ads about the Flat Tax. And he sounds _nuts_ in the ads. Like Crazy Eddie.

I'm not seeing an exit strategy for the Republicans. I mean, if Olympia Snowe became their spiritual leader it would do a helluva lot for them, but I just don't see that happening.

Maybe Bloomberg in two years?

I dunno.

Hes banking off of a Simpson's episode about a doomed kids cartoon character named "Poochie" who makes an abrupt(!) exit. Kind of like Kumar on House who blew his brains out because of Obama.

Fun and kooky I'll give you, but smarter? The guy's an incompetent nincompoop...without an ounce of self respect.

I don't think he's be ousted, but he'll be emasculated. No budget control, and they will re-write any rules they have to to shut him up. He of course is too much of a whore to quit in protest.

He will become the GOP Steppinfetchit.

Okay, how about this, smart guy... Who, between Palin and Steele, do you think would win at Scrabble? Oh, wait, I guess he'd win. Well, bucko, which would win at Trivial Pursuit? Ha! ...oh, hmm, I guess he'd win that too. I guess even Michael Steele is smarter than Sarah Palin.

If the RNC doesn't boot him, which I still believe they ultimately will, I think you're right, he'll stay around, even if in some diminished capacity. As I said, the man has no self respect, and anyway, where's he going to go? He's become a national laughing stock, and therefore a pariah.

I don't know what it's been about the last ten years that makes you think the Republicans are likely to admit that they've screwed up and cut their losses. When these guys find themselves in a hole, they dig harder.

Steele's only there now because nobody wants to go to the trouble of running for his job, because nobody wants it. Any of the half-dozen or so guys who could install themselves or their sock puppet tomorrow are smart enough to know that its a ticket to scapegoat. Steele was the only guy for whom it was a "career move" worth making, not running from. Outside of getting caught with a live boy, a dead hooker, or a grocery bag full of Benjamins, I think he's pretty secure.

Poochie is an X-TREME! radical! Incredibly cool! character added to an existing show in the Simpsons. As such, he falls like a lead balloon.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xuXuG4e8yYk 30 seconds of song that explains what Poochie is.

The good news is I was wrong, it's Steve Lonegan attacking Christie. How'd I get it backwards like that? Okay, maybe radio advertisments before coffee in the morning don't process too well. Christie might not be as bad as I thought.

Please do. Was he an embarrassment back then as well?

Kidding aside, I'd really like to know what happened in his life to cause him at some point to conclude: "There's nothing crazy, nor self destructive, for me, a black man, to join an organization actively opposed to equal rights for blacks, no, none at all."

That is true. However, Michael Steel's black, and once they've scapegoated him with enough of the party's screw-ups he'll be tossed aside like an old, tattered dish cloth that's sopped up all the messes it can handle.

The party brokers never wanted Steele, the man, in the first place. They stupidly believed his race would be an effective counterpoint to Obama. Now that they see Steele's blackness provides absolutely no benefit to the party they're incredulous, and are scrambling, once again, over yet another major miscalculation. They'll jettison him soon enough.

They'll get rid of them if he insists on sticking to his own brand of crazy. But if they can make him into a kind of Joe Louis casino greeter figure, they will keep him as their evidence that black people have a place in the party.

More comedy gold:
Quote:
And when a listener scoffed at the notion of global warming, Steele eagerly ran with the baton.

"Thank you, thank you," he said. "We are cooling. We are not warming. The warming you see out there, the supposed warming, and I am using my finger quotation marks here, is part of the cooling process. Greenland, which is now covered in ice, it was once called Greenland for a reason, right? Iceland, which is now green. Oh I love this. Like we know what this planet is all about. How long have we been here? How long? No very long."

Greenland, for the record, likely had forestation some 450,000 to 800,000 years ago. But its name was derived, as is most commonly believed, from Erik the Red, who wanted to trick people into going to that island as opposed to the more hospitable Iceland.

The Greenland gaffe was not Steele's most glaring. Earlier in the program a caller asked him about the importance of education. The RNC Chair responded with a curious comment about the need to understand the differences between Hitler and Mussolini, as opposed to FDR and "his honor, the honorable Winston Churchill." Only, he spoke of "Roberto Mussolini" -- an obscure essayist, it seems -- as opposed to the much more infamous fascist, Benito.

"Education is key," said the RNC Chair. "It is where it begins, for all of us... If we understand the difference between Marxism, socialism and capitalism; if we understand the difference between a Roberto Mussolini, an Adolf Hitler, and a Franklin Roosevelt, and his honor the honorable Winston Churchill, if we know those differences than we can appreciate what these times mean. And how history is a precursor of things to come."

So you're saying Greenland derived its name from somebody trying to sell a bunch of bullshit to uninformed members of the general public.

How on-topic.

There's at least one more Black Repubbie: Ken Blackwell. He was Ohio Secretary of State for 8 years, lost the election for Governor of Ohio in 2006, and was even in the running for Michael Steele's job earlier this year. Blackwell has been tainted by some political scandals in Ohio, but he might still make a politrical comeback.

Steele Threatens to Quit if RNC Undermines Funding Authority
Quote:
Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele told FOX News that part of his job is to "manage the money" and suggested that if committee members strip him of that authority he'll step aside.

"They can contemplate all they want to, but the reality is if they want a figurehead chairman you can have a figurehead chairman, but it won't be Michael Steele," he said.

Hah! Yeah right. Where's Steele going to go after this gig? Besides George Bush, if anyone has most assuredly doomed himself to a life of ostracization and obscurity it's Michael Steele. Who in their right minds would listen to anything he has to say after the debacle that is his tenure as head of the RNC? And that's saying nothing of the myriad other failures that mark the body of his life's work.

Last night on The Daily Show, Stewart showed a clip of Steele proclaiming that the GOP needs to "in the spirit of Ronald Reagan, saddle up and ride!" Or words to that effect.

Frankly, I liked the faux-hip-hop thing better.
