Michael Steele Doom Watch - A Poll, A Prediction, A Laugh Riot
I know it's wrong to have fun at anyone's expense, but I'll have to, once again, make an exception in Michael Steele's case. The man's been an utter embarrassment since day one [you decide which day in which year that was. There are so many to choose from].
It now seems a heated battle for control between Steele and other RNC power brokers is coming to a head. Quote:
Quote:
And this gem. So, my question is by when do you believe Michael Steele will be shown the door, given the old heave-ho, pushed to the curb, eighty-sixed, thrown out on his keister, given the boot, and pink-slipped? I'll make a bold prediction and say he'll be gone, or at least marginalized into irrelevency, by July 1st. Whenever the day of Steele's, in my opinion inevitable, demise arrives, it'll be good riddence to a man who doesn't have sense enough to be embarrassed to be the token black face of a party that cluelessly and cynically placed one of the most inept and unqualified politicians in America today in charge of the RNC solely because he's black and Republican. Idiot. As an aside and just as interesting (at least to me) in both of the articles I cited above is the RNC's special meeting, scheduled for next month, to vote on a resolution officially labelling Obama and the Democratic party socialists. O_o....Wow. I tell ya, the RNC has become funnier than the Keystone Cops. Self-immolation, I dub thee G.O.P. |

Does anyone disagree with my decision to call him Poochie?
Oh, and NJ is not looking good for them. Cristie is running ads about the Flat Tax. And he sounds _nuts_ in the ads. Like Crazy Eddie. Last edited by E-Sabbath; 05-04-2009 at 08:26 PM. |

I'm not seeing an exit strategy for the Republicans. I mean, if Olympia Snowe became their spiritual leader it would do a helluva lot for them, but I just don't see that happening.
Maybe Bloomberg in two years? I dunno.

I don't get it, but, um, no, I don't think I have a problem with you calling him Poochie.

Hes banking off of a Simpson's episode about a doomed kids cartoon character named "Poochie" who makes an abrupt(!) exit. Kind of like Kumar on House who blew his brains out because of Obama.

No way can they get rid of Steele. He is a smarter version of Sarah Palin. Fun and kooky.

Fun and kooky I'll give you, but smarter? The guy's an incompetent nincompoop...without an ounce of self respect.

The Repubs can't get rid of Steele. That move would cost them the black vote!

I don't think he's be ousted, but he'll be emasculated. No budget control, and they will re-write any rules they have to to shut him up. He of course is too much of a whore to quit in protest.
He will become the GOP Steppinfetchit. |

Okay, how about this, smart guy... Who, between Palin and Steele, do you think would win at Scrabble? Oh, wait, I guess he'd win. Well, bucko, which would win at Trivial Pursuit? Ha! ...oh, hmm, I guess he'd win that too. I guess even Michael Steele is smarter than Sarah Palin.

If the RNC doesn't boot him, which I still believe they ultimately will, I think you're right, he'll stay around, even if in some diminished capacity. As I said, the man has no self respect, and anyway, where's he going to go? He's become a national laughing stock, and therefore a pariah.

Not much of a fan politically, but I liked Michael Steele's early work with the Runaways and the Bangles.

I don't know what it's been about the last ten years that makes you think the Republicans are likely to admit that they've screwed up and cut their losses. When these guys find themselves in a hole, they dig harder.

Steele's only there now because nobody wants to go to the trouble of running for his job, because nobody wants it. Any of the half-dozen or so guys who could install themselves or their sock puppet tomorrow are smart enough to know that its a ticket to scapegoat. Steele was the only guy for whom it was a "career move" worth making, not running from. Outside of getting caught with a live boy, a dead hooker, or a grocery bag full of Benjamins, I think he's pretty secure.

How'd I get it backwards like that? Okay, maybe radio advertisments before coffee in the morning don't process too well. Christie might not be as bad as I thought. Kidding aside, I'd really like to know what happened in his life to cause him at some point to conclude: "There's nothing crazy, nor self destructive, for me, a black man, to join an organization actively opposed to equal rights for blacks, no, none at all." The party brokers never wanted Steele, the man, in the first place. They stupidly believed his race would be an effective counterpoint to Obama. Now that they see Steele's blackness provides absolutely no benefit to the party they're incredulous, and are scrambling, once again, over yet another major miscalculation. They'll jettison him soon enough. Last edited by Onomatopoeia; 05-05-2009 at 07:41 AM. |

They'll get rid of them if he insists on sticking to his own brand of crazy. But if they can make him into a kind of Joe Louis casino greeter figure, they will keep him as their evidence that black people have a place in the party.

Oh no, that won't be explicit unless and until they try for election to party offices. THEN it will become clear.

Last night on The Daily Show, Stewart showed a clip of Steele proclaiming that the GOP needs to "in the spirit of Ronald Reagan, saddle up and ride!" Or words to that effect.
Frankly, I liked the faux-hip-hop thing better. |
