Now, I understand that this thread was started by some bananas guy gibbering about ‘ducky waves’, but pretty much all the participants were just ignoring him and an interesting thread was developing - any chance of it being reopened?
Don’t worry, he’ll start another thread on the subject eventually. This was like his third or fourth.
…just… wow
If you could crystallize that and sell it to crackheads you’d get rich!
My first take was that you could start a new thread on the same subject, but I’m not sure what the subject was, exactly.
Is math something that humans have learned about the universe or is it something humans created to describe the universe; meaning it is always an approximation.
…biocentrism… solipsism… iso warp and bar
Gavotte and bow,

maybe it’s better to be closed now.
I read the last thread too. Same nuttery goodness.
From his profile page:
“rwjefferson has not made any friends yet”
I know this standard internet lingo but seems ironically funny in this case.
Sorry, but tomndebb made it clear that he would accept no less than rationality and not getting it, shut down the merry go round.
Actually, all he asked for was prose and he couldn’t even get that.
I’d like to kn ow if anyone can understand. So I can avoid them. I don’t even talk like that after a happy hour.
That’s really amazing.
Someone posts a turkey of an OP and Tomndebb warns the original poster against nonsense posting and tells him to write in prose or be closed down.
Meanwhile, the threads turns into an interesting discussion about the value of math vs philosophy in describing the universe, TOE, QM, and more. There is input from several different posters. I’m about to ask if math is the only absolute when…
The OP pops in again at Post #68 and writes more gibberish in difiance of Tom’s warning. Tom “moderates” by closing the thread, thus throwing the baby out with the bath water.
Remind me not to bother with a thread when a mod puts that much power into someone else’s hands.
The only part you missed (presumably) is the part where the OP opened version 1.0 of his thread.
I recently heard of something called Poe’s Law, regarding parodies of Fundamentalism. I believe the opposite effect is in play here.
Despite a thread topic that was “playing” with conceptual physics, posters who really knew something about what they were posting made a farce into an interesting discussion.
And just because the thread is closed, doesn’t mean you can’t read the posts and continue the discussion into another thread if you like. I recognized a lot of names from that aborted trainwreck and with the proper blandishments I think they could be lured into continuing their discussion.
As for putting the power in someone else’s hands, I think the metaphor in this case should be putting enough rope in someone else’s hands.
However, in the spirit of cooperation, I will try to remind you not to bother with a thread when the Mod puts that much power into someone else’s hands. Should I e-mail?,… phone call? …text?
Wow- that was a pretty strong response.
blandishments was a little over-the-top, wasn’t it?
Just pointing out that I’ve never been enticed into anything by a bland dish… <blink>
The thread had had no responses for over a day before the OP returned with his idiotic attempt at poetry.
Following that nonsensical bump, the thread continued to lay dormant for over ten more hours before I stumbled across it and put it out of my misery.
A thread without a single legitimate response in 41 hours (43 hours from the last substantive response) is hardly being yanked away from its myriad fans and supporters.
Anyone who wishes to re-open the topic, (or any related topic), is welcome to do so. I am not that keen on having my inbox fill up with troll reports for what is, essentially, a dead thread.
OMMFG! Hybrid Zombie Trolls!
Fair enough mate, I didn’t register the time stamps
I figured, why not start a new, more focued thread… Worth a shot.
Nicely done! I would have been hard pressed to form such a coherent take from the material at hand.
As a general question, then, not mentioning any names, if a poster who is generally considered a troll and who has been warned for this specific trollish activity in the past posts a post that is so obviously trollish that it will generate a flood of troll reports and forces the locking of a thread, why then does this poster remain unbanned?
I have an inkling, that a particular poster might not necessarily be trolling (although, I’m not ruling it out), but might have a mental instability of some sort. FWIW.
When said poster so rarely actually visits the board that he or she has accumulated very few Warnings, only one for trolling, and those Warnings issued months ago, we do not tend to leap to ban.
(Depending on the quality of the posts, the possibility of banning exists, of course, but then we also have to consider the hoopla that splashes up from our jack boots every time anyone is banned, regardless how deserving, so we tend to try to accumulating a lot of evidence before dropping the hammer.)
