I hate my job. I know a lot of people say this, and almost everyone complains about them, but I really hate my job. I'm not going to tell you where I work, or what I do, because it's not really important. The reason I hate my job is because my employers have little respect for it's employees at the site where I work. Here's a few examples of the shit they've pulled.

1. I was presented with an award for my performance in late October. The awards banquet was scheduled for a day that I was supposed to work. I asked my manager if I could take the day off, with pay, and not use any of my time off. He asked his superior and I was informed that this would be no problem. When the paycheck came, I found this was not the case. Upon checking with the appropriate people, I was told to talk to my manager's superior, which I did. He denied saying anything regarding them paying me, and offered to allow me to make up the time, by working overtime. This came 3 days after a 3 hour training session dealing with building peoples self esteem. There was a video that said "The best performers should be rewarded the best." And then they pull this shit, when I was given an award for being a top performer.

2. In November, I took a day off to help a friend move. I expected to only be a little late, and had told my manager this beforehand. Shortly after my shift was scheduled to start, I called my manager and told him I wasn't going to make it in that day, but I would come in and make up some of the time, and use time off for some of it. He had no problem with this. Somehow, the paperwork for my time off didn't make it to the right people, and this was delayed 3 weeks. The next week, there was a timeclock error, which removed 8 hours from my paycheck for this week.

These two events occurred in late October and early November, and two days before Thanksgiving, when I asked them to rectify the issue, their response was that it would be in the check to be payed on the Friday after Thanksgiving. At this time, it was 21 hours of pay, that was not paid over a three week period. I only received 13 hours of pay in compensation, as they refused to compensate me for the first issue.

3. We have semiannual reviews at my job. I was supposed to receive my review, along with a raise, in late October. It is mid December, and I still haven't received my review or my raise. I'm supposed to receive back pay, but there is a delay on this, as well.

Well, as you can imagine, I'm a little pissed about the whole situation. I just needed to rant for a second. Anyone else hate their job?

ps. On a brighter note, I'm going to school in the fall to pursue a completely different field, so I don't have to put up with this shit for very long.

I suppose I could quote a specific passage from paragraph 2 of the OP in his other Pit thread, but it would be far too easy.

You think that is bad. Hmm.. I could go on and on and on about my "wonderful" job but I will just mention one thing because of the time of year it is. The owner of the company I work for is so cold-hearted and cheap that he won't even hold a company Christmas party or even wish anyone a Merry Christmas because 20 friggin years ago some jerk who is no longer working there made some stupid comment about the turkeys that he gave away. He is the original Scrooge.

So, to quote you : "If you have a hard life, and don't like it, do me a favor and SHUT THE FUCK UP."

Besides, you said you were quitting to go back to school anyway so what difference does it really make?

Damn....That karma, she can be a real bitch sometimes, can't she?

FWIW, my job sucks, too. I've been there almost six years and I get 9 days of vacation every January, whether I need it or not. No sick leave, no incidental leave, no matching 401(k), no dental plan.

Oh, well. Shutting the fuck up now. Carry on.

I was an intern. I got hit on by a rapist. Turns out he'd raped two other girls my age. Watched his trial. That was pretty much my summer.....

Well, you know, LOTS of people are scarred by things like that.

Your boss USED to give away a turkey to everyone at Christmas. This was because he was a nice man, doing something nice for his employees, to show his appreciation for their efforts. He did it, but he didn't have to- it was a gift.

Then, somebody told him his gift was unsatisfactory. They probably went into how cheap it was (they usually do), probably said nobody there really liked it, and that they'd all rather have cash this year.

I imagine your boss was heartbroken, because he was giving a gift from his heart, out of goodness, not requirement. It probably hurt a lot.

Wouldn't you really hate if when you spent time picking out a gift for somebody and then they open it, look at it for a minute and then toss it aside, telling you "Well, that looks cheap. I hope you didn't pay more than 5 bucks for that. It's hideous, the material's fake... I won't even wear that. I'm going to put it up for sale on eBay tomorrow so someone who likes crap like that can have it, and I'll have some spending money to buy myself something I like with. Probably not much money, I probably won't get more than 3 dollars for that- but hey- thanks anyway. Oh, and the kids hate their gifts too."

Can you with really say that you'd ever buy a gift for that person again? How about their kids?

Your boss just went a little further, he decided not to buy anything for anyone he doesn't have to ever again.

Sometimes, people should get over things and move on. I've had my share of bosses who never got over things, dumb things, like believing that people can't possibly work and talk at the same time (ie. punch the clock and there's no more talking 'til you're on break).

Perhaps, you could try helping him a little bit. Did you send him a christmas card? Did you get him a little something? People warm up a lot if thier staff shows respect and appreciation back at them.

We actually had an episode like this recently at my work place. Everyone who went to the christmas party, got a gift certificate (holiday bonus). Those who didn't (for whatever reason), didn't get jack.

My co-workers who received nothing got *really* pissy about it. It wasn't fair. I convinced them to wait and see if something extra was included with their paychecks. Nada.

Well, I myself hadn't gone to the christmas party. We'd only been given about 5 days notice about it, and like most people, I'm really busy in December, I couldn't go. I didn't get the "holiday bonus".

Well- the last day of the week before christmas (yesterday), I thought I would show (for better or worse)just what was right. I brought a bunch of goodies into work. And I didn't play favorites, everybody got some. I didn't have to do anything of the sort, but I did.

When my boss came in, I invited him to have some. He was pleased, and the first words from him was "You didn't have to do that."

Trying to sum up this story, shortly there after red envelopes appeared for all- no certificates, just cash, with a little note of thanks from the Boss.

Maybe he'd planned it all along, maybe he saw the light in that nobody should be excluded from things like this- I don't know. But my co-workers were humbled and happy, my boss was humbled and happy, I was humbled and happy- and my girlfriend was *thrilled* with the extra money.

To sum: Kill 'em with kindness.

I'm shutting up now. Thank you. *bows*

Hell, I got fired yesterday but do you hear me complaining?

Probably because it's only part time, I'm still at school, I hated it anyway - crap hours and crap pay and loads of wackos who either tried to run me over or hit on me and in ten years time I'll be earning double the salary of the shit who fired me (that's youthful arrogance for ya)

Anyway get over yourself. RAAHHH!
