So, it looks like I may be paying for health insurance for a lot of you motherfuckers. Is there anything else I can get you while I’m at it? A brand(!) new(!) car(!) perhaps? Or how about a week in Hawaii?
You elected Obama so he could force people like me to pay for stuff for people like you, and it looks like you may get your wish. I guess you don’t care that goverment health insurance will cost many of you your jobs and will slow investment (meaning worse infrastructure and fewer cool gadgets like iPods etc.). No, none of that matters. And I guess inflation and weakening the dollar don’t matter either. And increasing the size of the federal government is only a bad thing when we’re talking about Bush’s justice department reading people’s emails, it’s fine when we’re talking about social programs.
Guess you won’t mind when cigarettes and fast food are made illegal due to the public’s interest in keeping health costs down. Or when the average quality of doctors goes down because doctors have to get other jobs that pay better so they can repay their student loans (and fewer smart students choose to be doctors in the first place). And gutting the market for drugs is no big deal, Obama will just tell the companies to keep researching or else.
Pssssst… When you have private health insurance, you’re paying for the health care of everyone else on the plan, too. The only difference is that when the government does it, they’re not out to make a profit.
I find it interesting that Canada and some of the European countries are moving back to a private sector based health system. You’d think we’d learn from their mistakes.
Meh, I’ve been paying more in taxes to cover the cost of the war in Iraq because fat-ass pussies like you needed random, useless action to Feel Safe after 9/11 than you’ll ever pay for universal health care. My heart won’t break if a few of your tax dollars go to cover some tetanus shots and antibiotics for poor people.
Edit: why beat around the bush, let’s come out swinging! Woo!
People without children still pay taxes to support the local school system where you got a free education. Colleges, in one way or another, are funded by the state. You seemed to have no problem leeching off the public for your education.
Aren’t you the one who believes that everything that ever happens to you is a result of choices you made and so when things you don’t like happen to you it is your own damn fault? People who can’t find a job are at fault because they didn’t get enough education and people who are having trouble making ends meet obviously didn’t budget properly or demand enough salary according to you, right? Well, since this is something you have a problem with isn’t that automatically your fault? You should have planned for future tax increases, right?
If you have any kind of health insurance at all, even an individual plan, you are already paying for the health insurance of every other person who’s covered by the same company.
Moreover, government programs already pick up all or at least a portion (depending on the area and the specifics of the case) of the medical care given to people without health insurance. Those people routinely skip preventive care (because they don’t have insurance) and wait until they’re in desperate straights before seeking care. When they do seek care, they usually go the Emergency Room, which is automatically more expensive than any other path to care (clinic, family doctor, Urgent Care). So, by not covering everyone, the government is already forcing people without insurance to get the most expensive, least effective medical attention. And taxpayers cover it right now.
A strong argument in favor of UHC is that it will help people get preventive care so that the can have a regular doctor AND so that their conditions can be managed effectively before there’s ever a need for the ER. It’s less expensive for all involved.
Gee, Rand I guess there’s nothing left for it. Like John Galt, you’ll have to find a more civilized place where your contributions won’t be made in vain. Good luck finding another industrialized nation that doesn’t have some form of socialized medicine.
Personally, Rand, I’m impressed as all hell that you think UHC is actually going to happen in America. Nobody else (well, OK, outside of the Right-Wing Noise Machine[TM]) seriously does. Come on–you know that the most that’s going to happen is some kind of watered-down government-backed health insurance plan that’s still administered by the HMOs, and even that probably isn’t going to happen.
Well, yes. Of course. You do realise what you said there, right? “Apparently it’s okay for you idiots if the government is involved in helping people rather than oppressing them!” I’m not even sure what that kind of backwards argument is called.
Nah, I already have health insurance. Pretty decent insurance at that since my wife works for a hospital. My own workplace offers insurance as well but my wife’s plan is better (and cheaper) and so we go with her’s.
I voted for Obama so we could both help ensure that the other folks have insurance. You’re not really getting me anything. But, since you asked, I’ll take the car. Thanks.
Hey, ivylass? Would you happen to have a link to that story that doesn’t come from Fox News? For some reason, I’m a bit dubious of their motives and their veracity.
Oh, please. First you were against the government taking people’s clothes off and stacking them like cordwood, but now you want the government to take people’s clothes off and give them medical examinations? Make up your mind, you hypocrite!!!
What are you bitching for? Rich folks will be lining up to get advice on how to weasel out of the taxes, giving you even more reason to come in here bragging about how smart you are!
