Galena, IL
Wondering if there's anyone here that comes to Galena for 'getaway' weekends. Either the Territories or Chestnut Mountain--Main Street or whatever. What's your favorite spot in Galena and how often do you visit?

I liked the park just near the Main St. there. That's all I can offer. I loved Galena in a way and hated it in another.

IMO, a tourist trap whose historic charm wears away quickly and gets rather boring unless you're at a resort with other options (golf, etc). There literally is only main one road and one back road into town--traffic can get bad at peak times so plan accordingly.
If you want a getaway weekend nearby I'd suggest Milwaukee (seriously, lol) or one of the lake towns in Michigan. YMMV. Last edited by strqwert44; 11-05-2009 at 03:45 PM.

We've only been there once, the historic stuff is fun and there's lots of antique malls, so my wife enjoyed it and I was pretty much bored after the first couple antique shops. The historic places are of interest, but I can't imagine going back.
