hey how much can a Single Sided, Single Layered DVD hold? (e.g X.X Gig)

I don't have the exact figures in front of me, but according to Crutchfield, a leader in mail-order electronics, the basic DVD disk holds around twice the amount of an average CD, that being somewhere in the neighborhood of 1.4GB, but don't quote me. I don't have the magazine in front of me for reference.
