I think very highly of the band. The Snakes and Arrows tour was wonderful and seeing Moving Pictures performed live on the new tour is very tempting.
I have seen them more than 50 times…the first being in 1982.
I possess an acoustic guitar signed by all three of them.
Fear me.
None of the above – some songs I like, some songs I don’t (no hobbit rock for me, thanks).
Considering how many options there were, I am surprised none of them fit my opinion: “I dislike them quite a bit”. I voted for “I’d rather have a root canal”, but that’s a bit extreme. I find their lyrics pretentious and boring and I hate the singer’s voice. I wouldn’t be more than likely to change the radio station, I would definitely change the radio station.
But I think I don’t think I’m up to “I would rather have a root canal” level of hatred.
I like 'em. I don’t know why any fan would think they’re undervalued though. They were popular when father was into as a teen in the 70s and I knew some kids who liked the band when I was in high school in the 00s.
Can the drummer do anything other than try to hit every drum in 1 second flat?
YYZ is one of my favorite instrumentals in Rock.
They were just fine but now days I just find them completely played out.
Like a lot of classic rock I’m just really sick of hearing the same songs over and over for the past 30 years. Tom Sawyer? Not again!
I like them, but many of their albums I don’t have and don’t feel much need to get. I think they started getting a bit repetitive sometime during the 80s. Some of their stuff is really great though.
Love 'em, though I have to say I haven’t loved their last couple of albums as much as their stuff previous to those two albums.
I’m kind of bummed that I wasn’t able to get tickets to their tour this summer, and will probably seek out a ticket broker. I see them whenever they come anywhere near this area.
Rush Limbaugh stinks.
The only place I’ve ever heard the group mentioned is on this board. Frankly, I half-suspect they’re some huge SDMB in-joke I haven’t gotten yet.
I think the band is great, however, Geddy is like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. Not being overly familiar with their work there have been a few times I’ve flipped on the radio and said “wow, this is drum/guitar/bass solo is amazing” only to hear Geddy come shrieking back in and I have to flip it.
Having said that, I’ll might rent the documentary when it comes out just because it’ll probably be interesting and I do have an appreciation for the music, I know it’s good, I can fully understand why people love it so much, I just can’t get past his voice.
Eh they’re all right.
No, seriously, look at my user name. Now let me tell you a little story.
About two years ago my little girl was being tested for autism. She barely talked at almost three. She showed little emotion except anger and fear, and her number one fear was strange noises.
Our OT suggested soft music with noise canceling headphones. The only music I owned and could play on a CD player at the time was a Rush greatest hits CD. I already knew she liked Trees, but she could sit and calmly listen to that CD for as long as I’d let her. Soon after she started singing it, and talking to us. When she started talking, they changed her DX to a severe receptive language disorder. That’s right, Rush cured my little girl’s autism. Someone call Jenny McCarthy!
Okay it was a combination of many changes like diet and various therapies, but I swear she’s receptive to Rush in a way only a member of my family could be. Her favorite song is Fly by Night. When she used to self-stimulate (spinning and finger touching) she’d sing that song out loud. I think I have a video still on my flickr account; I’ll look for it later.
I would love to meet them, if only to let them meet her and let her sing for them.
Oh, and MY GOD what a terrible photo they used in the link!
I’m between “like” and “love”, mostly for nostalgia’s sake, they were BIG back in the day. They’re also coming to the NYS Fair in August or September.
Never found a Rush song that was worth listening to more than once. They mediocrities, which is fine, since they can make money that way. What I do dislike is the people who seem to think their second-rate music is somehow deep or any better than hundreds of other groups.
I love them more than life itself. I can’t even imagine life without their music.
I’ve only gotten to see them in concert twice so far, but I’m really hoping to get tickets for the Columbus show this year, and possibly the Pittsburgh show as well. I’m also considering the Chicago shows. The Camera Eye has been at the top of my wishlist to see live for years now, and I can’t believe they’re actually going to do it!
Here are the photos I took at the Cincy show in '08, if anyone cares to see. 2nd row! Best concert ever.
Well, if you ever want to listen to them, you can go here. All their songs are there (except for two that are missing for some reason).
