I’m getting a Basset Hound. Aside from the JRT I had as a teenager, I’ve always had Basset Hounds. For whatever reason I believe a Basset Hound should have an “old person” name, like Walter, Betsy, Gertrude, Ira, Mortimer, Irene, or Wilfred. Previous BH’s of mine have been Humphries, Kent, and Iris.
Got any good old people names?

I love the names Agnes and Gladys! Lucky for the baby we’re expecting in August we’ve decided our next dog will be named Agnes.
My grandparents on my Mum’s side were Leonard and Elsie . And one of my Dad’s middle names was Lloyd .

My folks had a basset hound named Henry. We would often call him “Hank” also.

Walter is a good old-person name. Mr. Neville’s grandfather is named Walter.
There’s always Bertha, if you get a female.
It’s not really an old-person name, but a female basset hound could be named Rosebud, after the basselope .

My favourites are Walter and Verna, with Wilf and Irene a close second.
My grandparents, Swiss dairy farmers and cheesemakers, were named Emma Bertha and Julius Elmer.
Lucille is a great name for a Basset Hound. Also Clem and Wendell.
Try fiddling with this .
According to it, the popularity for Myrtle peaked in the 1890’s. Also Myron, Myrtice, and Myrna.
