Great hiphop doc online for free

One of my favorite films distributed by the distributor I work for just became available for free on hulu.

This Is the Life

From the filmmakers’ blurb:

(We also just got Bush’s Brain up there too. Free movies rock.)

Alternative hip-hop = Hip-hop white people like.

Cool. I’ll have to check it out, definitely.

Yeah, um, not in this case. It means an alternative to the big labels, etc. But let me know what you think.

I was joking. But there is truth to my statement.

Though this is also parody, check this out. Then try to tell me that there’s absolutely no truth to that whilst maintaining a straight face.

I’m sorry, are you talking about a subgenre of music that no one here is talking about? Or are you trying to explain to me about a movie you haven’t seen yet?

I’d love to hear your reaction to this particular documentary. But other than that, I can’t fathom what relevance there is to your response so far, which has absolutely nothing to do with this movie, but appears to be about some *other *music that you seem to have an issue with.

If the description of the documentary makes it sound like some horrible faux-hip-hop abomination–well first of all, you’d be wrong to assume that–then please don’t take the time out of your day to watch it. If, however, you have any interest in the subject, you should probably watch the thing before put so much energy into making fun of it.

To reiterate, the link you supplied has absolutely no relevance whatsoever to the subject of this documentary. I hope that information is useful to you as you decide whether to watch it.

This is the website of the filmmakers; maybe information that’s from a more direct source would be more helpful.

Sor-ry!

All I was saying is that the term “alternative hip-hop” has, in the very recent past, been used by many to describe a form of the music that is less mainstream, and more, I don’t know, “philosophical” and “intellectual” and “esoteric” than is the more mainstream stuff. Hence, it’s more palatable to white people, generally speaking, and as such makes them feel all cool and hip that they can now brag to their black friends that they now listen to the hip-hop.

And I said I looked forward to watching the movie in my very first post, for fuck’s sake. It’s not like I was trying to insult it or you. Okay? Christ, humor’s becoming such a lost art.

FYI, it’s not available outside the USA.

Yeah, sorry, I forgot that hulu only gets US rights, not international. I don’t know where it’s available for free outside the US.

MTCicero, I think you got double-snapped!
