While at the Benton County Fair today, I ran into Michele, twice.
Not hard enough to knock the crazy out of her, but still.

I think she was following us.

An Onion piece about Bachmann. It's scary how plausible it seems.

Bachmann may have worn out her welcome:
Quote:
There’s been scant polling in the district, but a June survey commissioned by her Democratic challenger, Jim Graves, found Bachmann with a dangerously narrow lead. “Bachmann’s unsuccessful bid for president had a clear and negative impact on her standing among voters in the new Minnesota 6 CD. She received low marks on both her job performance and personal favorability,” pollster Greenberg, Quinlan, Rosner found. The survey found her leading Graves by just 5 points and under 50 percent, even though her name ID was almost 100 percent in the district and Graves is mostly obscure.

A new CNN article that goes into a bit more details about Rep. Bachmann and her opponent. From this, it sounds like an interesting race. It sure would be entertaining to see one of those debates.

Unfortunately, the claims of her seat being in jeapardy ring a little hollow when her lead in the polls is "only" 6 points.

Sadly, the only people crazier than Michele Bachmann are half the population of her district. Jim Graves is doing a little better than Tarryl Clark, who lost in 2010 by a 12-point margin, so there is hope.

Bah! She apparently won, but it was at least close. Maybe her co-GOP reps will tell her to pipe down now. Or maybe she'll just slink off into the sunset after this term after finding self not wanted.

She should really cash in and spend the next four years bashing Obama on Fox news. She should team up with Glenn beck and Sarah Palin to form a new DC think tank.

The key to Bachmann losing will be a non-crazy challenger in the primary. I think her district knows how crazy she is, just like South Carolinians knew how infirm Strom Thurmond was, but that district will go Republican in every general election. The most likely case for her elimination is if a credible, non-crazy Republican with lots of money challenges her.

No, not a think tank. A team of superheroes! The Beckster, Mama Grizzly and CrazyEyes Michelle, fighting against gays, gun-grabbers and ... reason! Yeah, that's it, reason!

Okay, maybe more like supervillians, but still, I'd totally see that movie.

You're thinking tank as in fishes. They'd have a think tank as in Shermans. Trudging on day in, day out regardless of the slings of adverse opinions, reality, elementary logic, the mildest sense of shame, that kind of thing. And shooting back with the weaponized crazy.

Isn't that how she keeps getting elected? I say, hopefully, because I'd really like to think that if people were paying attention to what she says, she wouldn't be elected ever again.

Then I remember how stupid a lot of people can be, and all hope shrivels.

There are very few farmers in CD6; they make up only a small number of the voters. Her district is mainly suburbanites. Many of them overloaded with debt, a lot of it from high mortgage payments. This district has the highest foreclosure rate in the state.

Bachman herself is a 'farmer'. Despite railing against entitlements and farm subsidies, she accepts about a quarter million dollars worth each year for the farm inherited from their parents.

Here in Minnesota, we think much of it has to do with a suburban mentality that dislikes political parties and wants to be an 'independent' voter. So after voting for Democrats Barack Obama for President and Amy Klobuchar for Senate, they feel like they should vote for the Republican Bachman for the House. They don't want to vote for Democrats all down the ballot.

The district is actually a swing district. The vote is so close that any small group, like moronic farmers or racist old, people could be enough to win this district.

Wut

She's won re-election 3 time now and before her it was Kennedy, a republican. This was the closest election yet and it was probably because it was a presidential election and Graves just was able to throw so much money at the race. Tinklenberg was what? 5 points behind her but Clark was almost 10. I don't have high hopes for 2 years from now.

Her district shifted recently with re-drawn lines that did move away from a liberal-drenched area. My brother, who resides in a conservative area next to the liberal area was relieved though. Though a conservative, he thinks she is a whack job and is relieved not to have her representing him any more.

Sorry, I should have posted this yesterday.

Salon:
Quote:
Over a year after she dropped out, Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann has refused to pay five staffers from her failed presidential bid, according to a former top campaign official. Peter Waldron, her controversial former national field coordinator, told Salon the dispute started when former Iowa straw poll staffers refused to sign a nondisclosure agreement that would bar them from discussing any “unethical, immoral, or criminal activity” they witnessed on the campaign with police or reporters
Wouldn't a non-disclosure agreement be something you sign before you take a job or are let into confidence? Wouldn't holding out on paying someone for services performed constitute per se evidence that the agreement was signed under duress (and therefore wholly invalid)?

Any ideas about what the staffers have to say?
