Progressive Flo: "White Man Putting Cash In Your Pocket"???
Flo isn't really saying that, is she?
OK, in the new radio ad for Progressive insurance, not the TV one, for the Snapshot discount, Flo says something like "..the white man putting cash in your pocket!" Really. I wish I could find it online so you could hear it, but apparently my Google Fu is weak. Help me out here - what is she really saying? And if she is really saying "The white man putting cash in your pocket," I may just have to switch over to Progressive, 'cause that's awesome. |

I'd still hit it.
That is all.

Isn't she saying something like "It's like putting cash in your pocket"?

I think it's a little suspicious how she never offers any discounts to Asian drivers.

I think it's more likely they were involved in this Crash.

There are ways to rub that off, y'know.

Hence the "minor" in my nitpick. Ummm....
That doesn't sound right, either.

And in more Progressive news, they've apparently shitcanned the dirty bus station guy who gives unsolicited advise in favor of the two embarrassments to the white race in the light blue sports jackets.

You know, I almost created a thread about how I hate Flo the Progressive pitchwoman so much that whenever she comes on, I have to change the channel. There's something about her face that makes my skin crawl.
Anyway, everyone knows the white man only takes cash from your pocket. |

Yeah, but she aint no Betty Rubble or Lela.

I see this thread is a couple of months old, but I hear this commercial almost every day and puzzle over it. I decided to finally Google it, and lo and behold, this thread is the number one result.
I cannot for the life of me figure out what, other than "It's the white man of putting cash in your pocket!" she could possibly be saying. Since it's been a while, does anyone have any new theories? |

Can you provide some context? What was said before that?

She's discussing how big Progressive's savings are. If I recall correctly, the line before that is, "It's like the Grand Canyon of savings," and I think it's followed by something like, "Astronauts on the moon report, 'We can see the savings from waaaaaaay up here!'"

Maybe she's saying "Walt Whitman putting money in your pocket"?

I'm not having any luck, either. Of course, Progressive puts their TV ads on the website, but not the radio ads.

Or Whitey Bulger which, coincidentally, I sometimes find in my pocket too.

Is it possible she's saying, "It's like 'the man' putting cash in your pocket?"

This caused me to wonder...if misheard song lyrics are called mondegreens, what are misheard words in other things called?
Also, the white man doesn't put cash in your pocket; you put cash in the white man's pocket. Last edited by An Arky; 09-01-2011 at 02:23 PM. |

So what's with the hot trashy '70s guy with the pornstache they've been featuring? I assume he and Flo are an "item?"

FYI: The porn-stache guy is called, "The Messenger," and no, he and Flo are not an item. His story is that he's just such a fan of saving money, he feels the need to roll around town telling people about all the ways they can do so, too.

"Obvi"? Is your time SO valuable that you can't be bothered to type a whole word?
Gratz on yo Abbrevs, dood. U pwned us n00bs. BRB... gotta lay a smack down on some crackah for puttin his hand in my pocket. And, no, the radio ad is NOT "obvi". That's why we're all discussing this. |

Here is a site that lets you search for radio ads: http://www.radioads.com/ I can't find the ad that is being discussed here but it may not be played in my area. If you enter the stations you listen to you might have better luck than I did.
I also discovered there is a facebook page for "I'm dressing up as Flo for Halloween" |

"It's like da man putting cash in your pocket."
"Da man" refers to the government, Uncle Sam. You pay taxes to the da man. |

It's "It's the white whale of putting cash in your pocket."
I've listened to about 140 baseball games on the radio this summer, for a team who's stadium is owned by Progressive, so I've heard this commercial about 140*9 times. It's definitely "white whale." I've ignored this commercial about 130*9 times so I can't tell you the plot but it has something to do with huge things, and the huge thing in this phrase is "white whale." I haven't been able to mis-hear it yet as "white man." The closest I can think of is "white way of putting cash in your pocket." But still...it is white whale. |

Why would a white whale be putting money in any pockets?

Because it doesn't have pockets of its own?

I heard this commercial exactly once and I also thought it was "white man putting cash in your pocket." Since I saw this thread way back in June I have not heard the commercial. I'm glad it's been revived and possibly even solved.

Again, everything she says in that commercial is about Progressive's savings being huge in size. First, she just says it's huge, then she makes Analogy #1, which I've forgotten, then Analogy #2, which is apparently that it's as big as a white whale, then Analogy #3, which is that it's so big, it can be seen from orbit. "White whale" really does fit here, both in the general context of large things, and also in the order in which she scales up the size of things.

Just heard this commercial for the first time right now on an Internet radio station I'm listening to. It's, without a doubt, "white whale," as Zipper JJ says.

You know, I thought 'The Messenger' and Flo were an item too, given how he affectionately he tweaks the Bobble-head of her he has on his dashboard.
Boy that sounded filthy . . . . |
