ST:Voyager Doctor

I’m not the biggest fan of voyager but i’ll be damned if the holographic doctor isn’t one of my favorite characters out of the entire star trek universe - rivaling McCoy and on occasion surpassing him.

I’ve recommended transmitting this holographic matrix over to that sector known as ‘Cafe Society’, captain!

That’s because Robert Picardo is one of the best character actors out there.

Agreed. His characterization was brilliant.
One of the bright spots of that series.

This is one of the greatest scenes ever committed to film.

I just recently saw this video from Picardo to a fan. Read the description. That is one awesome guy.

And, yes, he was by far the best character on that series, and definitely one of, if not the, best actors.

Moved MPSIMS --> Cafe Society (the old fashioned way, no beaming involved).

This Doctor is so good that the (other) Doctor even borrowed his schtick in an episode from last season: confronted with an emergency hologram, he said: “please state the nature of the emergency.”

Laughed myself silly, I did.

Did you at least use the Heisenberg Compensator or did you just route it though a subspace channel?

:stuck_out_tongue:

I agree. The Doctor was the only reason to watch the otherwise-unwatchable *Voyager *with the sound on. (The only reason to watch it with the sound off was Seven of Nine).

Robert Picardo wrote a few songs about Voyager that he sings at conventions.

Yeah, I usually like him when he pops up on another TV show - he was good on Smallville and Castle.

(checks IMDB.) On the other hand, I can’t remember much about his guest starring turn on ‘Chuck’. Hmm…

Robert Picardo and John de Lancie were the hosts of the Star Trek concert we went to - they were both excellent. I must also say, hearing the Star Trek original theme live, played by a philharmonic orchestra, sent chills down my spine.

But back to the point of the thread, I really enjoyed The Doctor, too. Maybe that’s why Kate Mulgrew’s acting looked so bad - I was comparing it to Robert Picardo.

Oy! I’ll never be able to listen to “La Donna è Mobile” again without hearing the new lyrics about Tuvok’s raging pon farr hormones.

Is Picardo a good actor or was he merely surrounded by bad actors/actresses and idiotic characters so he looked good by comparison? And was Kate Mulgrew worse as Janeway or Mrs Columbo? Probably more of the former but the latter was a factor.

I loved him as the gym teacher on “The Wonder Years”.

So that’s where I’d seen him before Voyager. Coach Cutlip!

He also did a creepy turn as a doctor in the film version of The Handmaid’s Tale.

I used to remember the first few verses of that piece from high school chorus. Now, if I have to sing it on the spot, I usually slip into the Doctor’s version right at the start of verse two.

At the moment, I can’t remember the entire correct version. Grrr.

Also, I thought Robert Picardo was the best actor on that series. Granted, that’s like saying he’s the coldest fridge in Alaska, but I think he’s good. I really liked the episodes when he:

-went nuts due to too many personality algorithims and tried to murder crew members
-had to be rebooted and Janeway sat with him while recovering
-the Beowulf episode (Cheesy, I know)

There’s still more, but I’m done for now.

He was wonderful in China Beach with Dana Delaney. ( Did their characters ever hook up? I wanted them to…)
