I’m not in the habit of spying on my neighbors, but . . .
There’s a family across the street from me, two middle-aged parents and a kid in his mid-20s. Whenever I happen to look out one of my front windows, regardless of time of day or night, there’s a car pulling into or out of the driveway. Very strange.
So what’s strange about your neighbors (not that you’re in the habit of spying on them)?

There’s a batshit crazy couple two doors down who have regularly shouted obscenities at my husband and I since I asked them to keep their dog out of our yard two years ago. Evidently that was completely out-of-line on our part.
Luckily, everyone else is pretty mundane and quiet, as far as neighbors go.
There’s a woman who lives across the road from me, every day I see her going, or coming back from, a run. She dresses the part, proper shorts and top etc, not just slobbing it in leggings and a baggy Tee.
I think she has one of them iPod things too.
I often wonder is she in training for something?
She’s thin, so she can’t be running to get in shape…
At one time I lived between what I termed the Hatfields and the McCoys. You see, one day Mrs Hatfield decided she had had enough of her husband and moved in with Mr McCoy taking all of his money with her. For some reason, Mr Hatfield didn’t approve of this and would corner me outside displaying his ever increasing outrage. He would pace in front of the McCoy home trying to peer inside until the Hatfields closed all the window blinds. Apparently in his mind, this was far worse than the perceived fornication he imagined bouncing along within those walls.
So in retaliation, Mr Hatfield buys a gun. When he shares that purchase with me, my trying to talk him out of it meets undying resistance but at least he agreed to let me know when the deed would occur so that I could lie low. Fortunately for all involved, Mr Hatfield’s firearm expertise failed him because when he pulled the trigger he realized he forgot to load the gun.
Theres a woman in an apartment opposite me who regulary walks around naked after showering.
I’m not sure, but I think that she’s comitting some sort of criminal offence and I’m thinking of reporting her to the police.
If only there were more public spirited people like myself. who are prepared to climb up three stories and then cling to a narrow window ledge to see through the one inch gap in the curtains and make people aware of the unsavoury behaviour going on …
Perhaps then this sort of thing would become a lot less common and public decency would get a leg up.
People like her disgust me each and every time I look.
The woman who moved in next door almost 2 months ago has not put up any curtains except in one bedroom which appears to belong to her mother. This woman has also been leaving all the lights on every night including the two upstairs bedrooms where her grandchildren sleep (or try to; I would certainly not sleep with the ceiling light on full bore all night). I wonder if she is just an exhibitionist or if she’s scared of something. This is a very safe, quiet neighborhood.
So, while I also am not in the habit of spying on the neighbors, in this case it is really hard not to!
The people who live next door to me have a herd of dogs that live exclusively outside (even in the snow). They have litterally ripped skin off of one another. The owners don’t seem to care. I called animal control once and nothing was done about it. They just got a small fine. So, I don’t give a shit anymore.
Due to this, I don’t really enjoy my backyard and only use it to take my dogs out.
The other half of my duplex is owned by an elderly woman who apparently has her daughter and two grandchildren living with her. In my area we have curbside trash and recycling pickup, and in the three years I’ve lived here there I have never seen either trash or recycling bins in front of her place. I have no idea what they do with their garbage.
Also, I occasionally get mail addressed to her with my house number on it. Once when I was giving it to her she mentioned that her address used to be what is now mine, but the units were later renumbered. This is actually possible, since the development is only about 25 years old, and it may be that they added another house later (I’m near the beginning of the street). Also, my mailbox post has the faint imprint of another number visible under the metal numbers currently there. Apparently she never got around to sending a change of address notice to one of her store credit accounts; she said she would take care of it, but that was over a year ago and they’re still coming to me. And a few months ago I suddenly started getting mail from AARP with her name on it, which is really confusing because I’m also in AARP.
The guy across the street from us appears to have the rather large tv in his front room on 24/7. Every time I’m out in the front yard or look out one of the front windows (including our bedroom window), I see the glow of the screen. When I get up in the morning, tv’s on. When I go out in the middle of the day, tv’s on. When I come home in the evening, tv’s on. When I got to bed, tv’s on. If I wake up in the middle of the night to pee, tv’s on. We’ve lived here 6 years, and I don’t think I have ever looked at that house and not seen the glow from that screen in the front window.
