Favorite Muppet

I've been watching old clips from the Muppet Show (Mahna Mahna) and I know a new Muppet movie is coming out in November, so I've got muppets on my mind.

Here is a list of major muppets http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Muppets

I've always had a soft spot for Beaker. He always looks so bewildered! But then again Animal has that wild-cool thing going on.

Who is your favorite muppet?

Gonzo and Rizzo make a great duo. I often see a lot of people say they don't like Pepe, but I find him hilarious.

I think, though, my general favorite is Sam the Eagle. He's the ultimate straight man. Eagle. Muppet. Thing. Whatever.

I was always partial to Cookie Monster, Grover and Oscar the Grouch, but if you only count characters from The Muppet Show, I'll have to go with Gonzo. All the (chicken) ladies love him!

Gonzo was always a personal hero to me; He was such a weirdo. Beaker runs a close second.

I have an irrational hatred of Fozzie.

Agreed.
My favorite was a minor character, the saxophone player. He reminded me of a guy I once dated.

But after that, the Swedish Chef. And Beaker.

It's a toss-up between the Swedish Chef and Waldorf and Statler.

Kermit, by far! But apparently, the editor of that wiki article plumps for Statler & Waldorf. They’re listed twice.

You mean Zoot.

Mine are the only two I've actually met: Rizzo and Pepe the Prawn.

Pepe's personal ad.

It'd be a two way tie between Animal and Beaker, favorite full-body muppet costume? Sweetums

Least favorite muppets? Rizzo, Pepe, and Fozzie

Kerrrrr meeeeee!!! I adore Kermit! But "Sweetums" is a close second because he reminds me of the monsters from Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

Scred, of course,. The sex scenes alone put him way above the rest.

For better known Muppets, it's Gonzo (at least, the original version -- he's softened over the years).

Gotta give a shout-out to Rowlf.
Nothing ever fazes him. All hell could be breaking loose around him and he'll just keep on playing his piano, taking it all in, secretly amused at the absurdity of it all.

I like to think I'm kind of like Rowlf, but I could never be as cool.

If I have to choose it's Animal. After all, he bowls overhand! But Beaker and the Swedish Chef are cool as well.

I like Rowlf too for many of the same reasons but also because he was on the Jimmy Dean show. Second place I'd give to Animal rounding it out with Janice.

Gonzo, and if we're counting Sesame Street, Grover. They always seemed like two sides of the same coin -- maybe it was the blue fuzziness.

I am super psyched about the new Muppets movie (currently titled "The Muppets," in part because of my love for all things Jason Segel:

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1204342/

And as a personal hijack, a show I once worked on did an awesome spoof of the Yip Yips from Sesame Street:

I'll put a word in for some of the lesser known (or at least less frequently cited) muppets:

- Dynamite Harry a.k.a. Crazy Harry (one muppet that sure wouldn't pass muster today.)

- Janice, the hippie girl in Dr. Teeth's band.

- Guy Smiley (from "Sesame Street")

- Scred and the Land of Gorch characters (from SNL, season 1)

Another vote for Rowlf, especially as "Dr. Bob" on Veterinarians Hospital.

Miss Piggy: Dr. Bob, you don't look well. Are you alright?
Rowlf: I'm still in shock from what happened to my last patient.
Miss Piggy: But you cured him.
Rowlf: You don't think that was a shock?

I like Dr. Teeth.

Also, Bobo the Bear from Muppets Tonight and the later movies. He gave me my favorite muppet exchange of all time.
Bobo is working the backstage door
Prince: Hi, I am tonight guest star.
Bobo: and you are...?
Prince: Actually, my name is an unpronouncable symbol.
Bobo: Right.
Prince: <sigh> Alright, fine. I'm "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince"
Bobo: and I'm the bear currently known as UNAMUSED!

And here I thought I'd be one of the rare ones who loves Beaker. Shows what I know.

I see him as the outer expression of how so many of us actually feel inside. He just doesn't hide it.

I have affection for Lew Zealand only because he addresses Kermit as "Mr. The Frog".

Kermit is of course, the supreme Muppet. For shear humor, I'd give it to the Yip Yip aliens.

When I was a kid, my favourite was Crazy Harry. I guess the idea of a deranged psychopath blowing things up at random appealed to me...

Nowadays, it's Sam the Eagle. Wonderfully subversive.
