What the hell is wrong with Hotmail lately?

I know it's a relic and I should stop using it, but it's a hard habit to break. And now...

"It looks like there's a problem with Windows Live Hotmail right now. It should be fixed soon, so please try again in a few minutes. Sorry for the inconvenience. "

I get that message approximately half the time now. Like, half of all clicks on the Hotmail page return that message. It's very slow and inconvenient to use. And it's been like that for something like a week now.

Looks like I'm going to have to abandon it altogether for my gmail address or something.

Yeah, it's probably time to leave, I don't know anyone who is still on Hotmail. I had a throw-away Hotmail account but got locked out of it at some point and was not willing to give them my mobile number to get it reactivated. That caused few problems luckily.

I'd go with Gmail, but even they aren't perfect. I'd recommend downloading your Gmail occasionally, you can use a POP3 client like Eudora or Thunderbird.

I use Hotmail almost exclusively for personal use, and I never get that message. It must just hate you.

Not me

I use Hotmail many times a day through Outlook Express and never have this problem. If you go to Hotmail directly you are more apt to have this problem.

I have to agree. I'm not in passionate lust with hotmail, but it has served me well for 13 years or so. I only use my gmail for a few specific things, and it's fine, but hotmail is no problem at all.

About a week ago my hotmail would not download any attachment. I had to forward it to my gmail account.

It's working now...

I don't remember when I registered for a Hotmail account, but it must have been some time in the mid-nineties. One time I had to give my email address for something, and the woman I gave it to said "You must have had that Hotmail address for a loooong time!" I told her I did, and asked her how she knew. "Because it's just your first and last name, with no numbers."

Ah. I wonder how rare a thing that is nowadays, to have a Hotmail address that's just your real name with no characters or numbers.

My gmail address is the same, except I have a '.' between my first and last name. Don't ask me why I registered it that way, I don't remember. But, I understand that gmail addresses don't even read dots, that you could leave it out and the email would still get to me. I haven't tried it. Maybe I should.
