John Quincy Adams' pet alligator

What was the name of the alligator? I am doing poorly searching for it with this lame connection.

According to WikiAnswers, it was named Gerald McGuiness the 2nd. Does that ring a bell?

The serious answer is it probably had no name.

The alligator(more than one) actually were among gifts given to the Marquis Lafayette when he stayed at the White House. They utilized the East Room to house the gifts.
