There is no cookie superior to the chocolate chip cookie

No matter how many varieties/ingredients you try, you just can't beat a chocolate chip cookie. Now there are certainly grades of tastiness within the realm of chocolate chip cookies- and some recipes are better. But I'll go so far as to say that even store-bought chocolate chip cookie dough, baked fresh, is far superior to any other type of cookie. In fact, the only cookies that even come close to chocolate chip cookies are variations on the same- peanut butter chocolate chip, double chocolate chip, M&M cookies, etc.

The perfect cookie is so easy to make- so don't waste your time with ginger, or orange peel, or lemon cream, or whatever. Just make a chocolate chip cookie, and the cookie eaters will not be disappointed.

Anyone disagree?

I have had disappointing chocolate chip cookies. I have had stellar non-chocolate chip cookies. But chocolate chip cookies are definitely the benchmark to measure against.

Especially the homemade Toll House ones. Mmmmmm....

"There is no cookie superior to the chocolate chip cookie"

Not in dispute, however... crisp or chewy?

My favorite are the kind that are crispy on the bottom and the edges, and chewy in the middle.

Lies! All lies! Everyone knows that it's the oatmeal raisin cookie that's elevated the cookie to perfection.

But if I *have* to have chocolate chip, it must be chewy.

I don't know...I just baked some pumpkin spice cookies that were pretty darn good. I took them to work and my boss said that they were in the top 5 best cookies he's ever had!

But then again, I'm not sure I've ever had a bad cookie. I mean, it's a cookie.

I think the only cookie that might be better than a chocolate chip cookie would be a chocolate chip cookie that somehow involves creamcheese. Maybe a chocolate creamcheese frosted chocolate chip cookie or something like that... never seen one, but that doesn't mean they can't be invented or exist in my mind.

I like oatmeal raisin and (non chocolate) peanut butter cookies. Best cookies I ever had were peanut butter of the non chocolate variety.

Nothing worse than seeing what looks like a chocolate chip cookie only to bite into it and find raisins. It's a crime against nature, that.

The OP preaches wisdom. Anytime I see a cookie that isn't chocolate chip, my first thought is "I wish these cookies were chocolate chip." Also, I'm ok with chewy, but light and crispy is my own cookie nirvana.

Damn straight. Chewy is so fucking overrated.

A crispy cookie, thin and baked correctly, will virtually dissolve on your tongue.

Chocolate chocolate chip cookies is where it's at. I take the recipe off the back of the Toll House bag and add about 1/3 cup cocoa powder. Dammit now I want some cookies, and I'm stuck at work.

I love me a good chocolate chip cookie, but for me, the mint-chocolate Girl Scout cookies, or Pepperidge Farm Mint Milanos are tops. Especially if they've been frozen.

Sometimes, a thick chewy ginger snap with ginger so heavy that it makes your eyebrows sweat, can beat the chocolate chip cookie. Unless there is a glass of milk nearby, then the chocolate chip wins again.

Warm peanut butter cookies with chocolate chips come close to chocolate chip cookie perfection.

Oatmeal cookies are only worth eating when they're still raw.

Agreed, although chocolate chip is a close enough second that we can forgive the error.

Raisins in cookies, however are an abomination. In the right place raisins are delicious, but in a cookie they're as out of place as Clapton playing guitar in Beethoven's 9th symphony.

The chocolate chip cookie is to the set of all cookie varieties what the peanut is to snack mix. It's there to fill up space with something adequate while cutting down on the need to make all the much better varieties of cookie. Snickerdoodles, sugar cookies, oatmeal raisin... All rank higher than the basic, workaday chocolate chip cookie and it's boring plain-ness.

Yeah, I think ginger snaps and snickerdoodles would be on my favorite list, although chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin aren't far behind.
