I'm betting that they don't have a mass market to produce for, so production cost per unit needs to be high.

Not that high, not if they want to sell any. We investigated making and selling a game ourselves, and it wouldn't come to that. We have a review copy of a really beautifully done game about Egypt which was $50.

Nothing else in the CFI store is that over-priced, so I assume that the game designer is like the bar tender with the $1,000 martini.
