Damn, I am going to quote this in The Analog World. That's great.

And from that other thread where Diamonds parks in a traffic lane and claims to be mystified by others getting pissed:

Just to make sure she sees it, here's my advice to her when she asked "What can I find for free and sell?":

OMG, Diamonds, I just now saw your "Why can't I overfish a lake and sell the fish off the back of my truck?" thread.

Go get some money the old fashioned way (work for it). Relying on your own instincts is going to get you in a lot of trouble.

I'm half expecting to come here someday soon and read a thread titled "How was I supposed to know pickpocketing was a bad idea?" and your OP mentioning that a guy broke all your fingers. Slowly.

Seriously...it sounds like all the ideas she has for making money involve more actual physical work and scrambling around for less money than just getting a damn job and doing it. Yes, we're just coming out of a recession and unemployment is high, but fast food and retail are hiring. It doesn't pay GREAT but if you are even halfway responsible you're worth more than gold in those areas and you should never want for work.

God she is a fucking moron. Please people, stop trying to help her. How can I get a commercial fishing license to fish a lake empty and fry all the fish and sell them out of the back of my truck at a flea market??? Does that seem like a non-trolling request to anybody?

Yea but with a real job you have to show up on time, not accidentally offend anyone, need charisma to explain away oddness in your education/employment record which is common, and you have to interact socially and have to socialize to even get the job. People with AS can have such poor social skills they REALLY rub people wrong.

To be fair though, someone with Asperger's Syndrome lacks the physiology to ever understand the discomfort of the person they're offending. The cost/benefit calculation of telling a joke includes the chance someone will be offended by it for the person finding humour, unless they have Asperger's. I used to volunteer with someone with Asperger's and their idea of a joke was "how are your parents" to a woman whose parents he knew had just died recently or "how's your girlfriend" to me, when I'd been perpetually single at the time. I think quite a few of the snuff style videos appeal to them on that basis, they know they get a rush out of it but can't place themselves in the position of the person being hit by a car for instance.

Yes, but I don't think she's ever been definitely been diagnosed with Asperger's.

She says she has OCD here Why treat mental illnesses that you don't suffer from? but I don't remember seeing anything about Asperger's or other autism spectrum diagnosis.

It's also dangerous. My dad managed to total his car that way a few years ago. He didn't get pulled over- he woke up on impact with a guard rail. Fortunately, no one was hurt, but I could easily imagine a similar scenario where that wasn't the case. The NTHSA says drowsiness or fatigue at the wheel causes at least 100,000 car accidents per year in the US, killing 1500 people and injuring 71,000.

My 17 year old would envy you SO much. We saw BTR in March at Reliant Stadium in Houston, but we were WAYYYYYY up in the nosebleed section. She still loved it! (OK, I will admit to enjoying the show myself and to having some of their music on my mp3 player!)

As the creator of this thread I would like to make a few declarations:

My issues with diamonds02 had nothing to do with boy bands and concerts, but feel free to keep arbitrarily discussing them with gusto here.

Reposting bad puns time and time again is DEFINITELY ok by me. I'm a huge fan. growing somewhere! ha!

I do know that diamonds02 claims to be a "she" now, and have mentioned it in this thread, although I'm beginning to have my doubts. Could anyone of the female gender honestly behave this way?

To diamonds02: Perhaps you should try farting in public at a lake where people fish and charging them for it. Combine two or three of your favorite things.

I'll introduce ya to my friend Shelley sometime. She introduced her 7-year-old cousin to the term "brown eye," and taught him the "milk milk lemonade" poem. And her partner also once stole all the candleholders and the menu holder off the table in a bar in NYC and hid them in another girl's shopping bag and she thought it was the funniest damn thing ever.

So yes. Yes they could.

I'd pay good money for someone to dig those up and bring them to me. Hmm...potential business idea? Seems like there's good money just sitting there waiting for someone to go get it!

Um, I have a job. And have for the last three years. Before then, I was a grad student. I also worked some in undergrad. So, I'm not shy about working hard. It's just the jobs I'm finding do not pay enough. I also like independence. I hate having people breathe down my back. Finding shit and selling it, seems like it should satisfy these needs. I would think working for myself would be hard work...but more rewarding. I don't see anything easy about trying to find things to gather and convincing people to buy them.

I just thought it would be cool if I can grab some fish at a local lake/pond/creek/river...fry em up and sell it at a family renunion, flea market, or whatever (my cousin did this with hot tamales when he had a long streak of unemployment - until someone lied and said they got food poisoning). And man, there are flowers FLOWERS everywhere. If I can find a way to gather a bunch of them (and reproduce them) and sell them I would be shitting gold. Apparently the law and uptight people don't want me doing such. What am I to do?

One problem with this idea is the law of supply and demand. If something is easily and legally available for free, anyone who wants it can go and get it themselves. They're not going to pay much for it, because they could go get it for free instead.

The restaurant or food service business is not an easy one to break into, even assuming you have all the proper licenses to do it. The idea that 90% of new restaurants fail in their first year may be a myth, but it does seem that at least 50% of new restaurants fail. Owners of new restaurants tend to work very long hours- it's not something they do part-time while working at another job. I doubt a catering or food-service business is much less work.

What the hell kind of flowers are growing EVERYWHERE that anybody would pay a shit-ton of money for? Roadside weeds? Wildflowers? Nobody WANTS those. They're WEEDS. They tend to be leggy, invasive, scraggly, and look like crap in a well-tended garden. People pay money to have people dig those OUT of their yards.

What do you know about flowers? What do you know about breeding healthy, attractive perennials, that will look consistently good when they come back every year, that people would want to buy and plant in their own gardens?
