I planned to toss most of my diet out the window for my vacation in February and hoped that the additional walking I was doing would make up for the occasional (Hey, daily is an occasion) shave ice. When I got home I discovered I'd gained 5lbs in 2 weeks but since my Sunday weighin this week showed I'd lost 4 of them I think that most of that was actually from the long flight home.
I was sick the last couple days of our vacation and this week my work from home is completely reversed (in office 4 days, home one instead of the other way around) my lunch time treadmill time has not yet been resumed. With all of that upheaval I'll be happy to be back to prevacation weight this weekend and then we'll start progressing again. |

Oh wow, you just reminded me that I bought mine a few years ago when I was actually about 15-20 pounds heavier than I am now... I need to get it out and see how it fits on me now. They are pretty fantastic pieces of equipment, and I mean that. "Garment" is far too mild a word to describe them. Mine is the real deal: steel-boned. It cost about $300. (I cannot get it wet: the steel will rust and ruin the whole thing. I guess stainless would make it too costly, but having to dry clean a garment that is worn so close to the skin and which itself promotes sweat by its very closeness can become very costly if you wear it very often...might be more cost-effective to go stainless to begin with. Technically I think one is supposed to wear some kind of chemise or other light underlining garment to help wick the sweat and keep it off the corset, but I didn't find that worked out very well, the cinching made the undergarment bunch unattractively.) They are spectacular at making you look good in (and half-out!) of clothes, that is for sure. Depending on what I wore it with, mine visually wiped away a solid 30 pounds, that's no exaggeration. (But that's on a fat woman, I don't think it would be quite so much on a woman who isn't so big.) What they are also spectacular at is correcting your posture, (although heavy reliance on them for that can actually weaken the core muscles). I purchased mine on a trip to Las Vegas, and I found it so incredibly comfortable in terms of correcting my posture that I decided to wear it on the 6-hour drive home, and it was a great decision. I have never before felt so good after driving for so long, by back always gets terribly fatigued, but not that time. Mine is made to go under the breasts, and that was my biggest issue with it- I have never had particularly large breasts for a woman my size(s), and it is difficult to find a good bra to combine with the corset to make my breasts look less half-filled-water-balloons-laying-on-a-shelf... |

Perhaps they could make a corsette for men that woul make other parts look bigger, but I digress.....
Anyway, my weight loss programme is at a loss. After a few days of eating airline food, being a slob, and doing a great deal of nothing apart from wishing to choke a few people, I am not game to weigh myself. Next week...... |

Gained five pounds last week, lost six this week. Yeah, I know, it's a net loss, but it's just a little frustrating- feels like a lot of work for, generally, nothing.

What's up with everyone this week?
I'm still trudging along. Losing 1-2 lbs a week. I had to quit weight lifting because it's irritating whatever is wrong with my tummy, and I feel too sick for the elliptical so I am just walking the track for 40-60 mins a day. For some reason it's not too boring. Only problem is that I am not used to walking that long on the track (as opposed to on the elliptical) and am getting crazy blisters. It sucks big time. It's getting hard to walk. I can't wait till Monday when I have an endoscopy and can get on the road to fixing whatever is broken in there. I hope the answer isn't "Nothing, sorry." Oh, I also hope it's not "Stomach cancer, sorry." How is everyone else?? |

Feel better soon ZipperJJ!!
I umm went to DC for a week to earn some school credits on the advice of Academic Services and did nothing other than stuff my face with carbs ("I can't work out, screw it I'm eating Ethiopian food."). I came back feeling awful!! Why do I mentally crave crap I know makes me feel moody and gross ten seconds after I eat it??? Finally got back on the horse now that I'm back at school. Moving to New York in less than two weeks. My graduation status is still up in the air...I need to scrounge for three credits somewhere somehow but all my profs are pretty cool with letting me de facto drop out for the last month. I have a goal skirt that I want to hit in 16 days. Let's see if I can do it! (oh yeah, and on the plus side, I was featured in Forbes Entrepreneur. Woot!) |

Hope you feel better soon, ZipperJJ! It sucks when you can't work out because you're sick. The weather was beautiful today, but after a sleepless night, there was no way I was up to riding. I napped instead.
So this week, I officially quit smoking (go me!). So far, I haven't had the urge to snack, but I stocked up on fruit and veggies in case I do. The grapes have been good, so I got a big 'ol bag of those, and some more oranges, bananas, cauliflower and baby carrots. The rough part so far is breaking the old habits; I'm used to taking a smoke break as dinner cooks, so I had to find something else to do until the craving passed. (I washed some dishes and scrubbed the broiler pan. That sucker sparkles.) This week's weigh-in was a little disappointing. I'm down 0.8 lbs., for a total of 85.8. It's still down, but I thought I did better considering how much I exercised. (I did have a rough day Friday, which didn't help. I probably didn't need that second slice of pizza.) Congrats on the mention, anu-la! It's nice, innit? |

I lost four pounds in three days. And now I've been stalled for a week. My overall rate is still good, but man, it's been all jaggedy lately. Kind of frustrating. I also started a new job--I'd forgotten how much time working takes! And people bring in food and stuff. I've been either politely declining or working it in to my count, though.
It's also going to be super warm this week, which kind of sucks--I much prefer doing my cardio when it's <65F outside. |

I seem to have stalled, and I suspect it's because of a project I'm doing at irk at the moment - I'm basically sat at my desk all day long, getting very little of that incidental exercise I usually get during the day.

Yes, so are mine.
Well, I've finally got the details through for running a 5K in July, but I haven't signed up yet - I think I'll do a test run this weekend to see how my fitness is, then decide. I'm planning on doing it to raise funds for a charity, so signing up then dropping out isn't an option - there's nothing like a bit of added pressure! I suppose walking some of it would be okay, so I could still do it even if I've not quite got into 5K shape by then - it is listed as a fun run, rather than a serious event. And I've lost another 1lb - woohoo! That makes a grand total of, errr, 5lb since the end of January, but it's still going in the right direction dammit! And my waist is slimmer, so I must be doing the muscle-building thing too ![]() Well done One and Only Wanderers! And get well soon too ZipperJJ *hugs* |

For years, my doctor has been nagging me to lose weight. I have an annual medical every March. Between March '10 and March '11, I lost 21 pounds. His reaction: to worry and send me for an abdominal ultrasound (not covered by medicare) and a chest X-ray (covered). So this year, I lost another 18 pounds. His reaction: get another abdominal ultrasound and chest X-ray! I feel slapped in the face. Anyway, I am now down to 201. I passed 200 in tenth grade in HS. I don't know what I weighed when I graduated. But I am now lighter than at any time since I was 15. When I drop below 200, I will celebrate (with a good meal, needless to say). I need to lost another 18 pounds for my BMI to drop below 25. If I do that during the next year, my doctor will go ape-shit. Incidentally, in 2001, I weighed 281.

81 pounds is a lot! Congratulations! |

Welp, after noticing that all my pants are now too tight, I stepped on the scale the other day and saw that I have gained 10 pounds since my mom died in November.
Her memorial service is this Saturday, and I feel like after I get past that mental and emotional hurdle, I'll be able to get back on track. I got a deal on Groupon with a local dietician to have my bodyfat/BMR tested and to have one counseling session for dietary advice, so I'm going to schedule that sometime soon, return to clean eating, and pick up running again. For extra motivation, I have to remind myself that the more fat I carry, the greater my risk for the kind of cancer that killed her. It's not just about appearance; it's about doing my best to avoid that horrible, horrible death. |

I gained 1.8 last week. I'm not happy about that, but considering that I stopped smoking, I understand. Next week, I may have to use my first-ever "free pass" because I can't exercise until I get the clearance from my surgeon. I'm still being very careful, but not exercising is going to make a difference. But there's not a lot I can do about it.

I'm still going down in weight. Still feel sick but I had the endoscopy and the doc says I'm fine. He had me go for a "gastric emptying test" today where I had to eat a radioactive egg sandwich and orange juice, to see if my tummy empties slowly.
I have to take $190/mo Nexium in the meantime. It does make me feel better. I had my first "cheat day" today since I had the OJ. Figured I'd go whole hog and have some MdD's for lunch and a couple slices of pizza for dinner. I actually was under calories on My Fitness Pal, since I still went to the gym and walked. Oh, I'm under 300 now. Yay! Next week I guess I'm back at the gym full force. I betcha my weight loss stops or weight goes up. I always seem to drop weight quickly when not working out. But I like to work out. Good job everyone. Looks like you're all going in the right direction! MsRobyn good on the quitting smoking. I quit a year ago and gained 20 lbs. Took me exactly a year to get rid of it. IT WAS NONSENSE! |

I gained 1.8 lbs last week. Of course, I'd quit smoking the week before and had to weigh in a day early due to my surgery on Tuesday. (Not that the extra day would have made a difference, but it still threw me off.) My WW leader and smoking cessation coach both told me that smoking has an effect on metabolism, so some gain should be expected, but staying vigilant on my WW program should help that somewhat. Either way, it's not worth starting smoking again.
I know I'm going to gain again. Thanks to the surgery, I can't do much for exercise until I'm cleared by the surgeon on Tuesday. Even then, it'll have to be light exercise since I can't get my bike up or down the stairs or lift anything much more than 5 lbs. Zipper, congrats on getting below 300! Those milestones are awesome, aren't they? |

I lost 3 lbs last week and it sort of sucks because I haven't been lifting or hitting the cardio hard, so I'm afraid I'm losing muscle like crazy. I also have been eating low-cal + low-carb because I'm still fucking sick.
Glad the weight is coming off. Just not looking forward to muscle death. Meant to lift today, even tho I ended up feeling poorly. But a rare babysitting gig went long and I missed it. Tomorrow is tomorrow. |

I have no idea how I accomplished this since I was laid up and unable to work out all week, but I managed to lose a pound. Now that I can handle more activity, I can at least walk, but I won't be able to ride until the incision has healed a little more and I can lift the bike down and up the front steps. So far, that looks like it'll be sometime in mid- to late April. But at least I can walk and that's something.

Whatever ''losing weight,'' means, I'm doing the opposite of that.
![]() Depression always gets me. Always there to sabotage my progress, to say ''What's it to you? It's not like you even care about anything. Best thing to do is just shove this cookie in your mouth and get a moment of pleasure.'' I am still trying to go to the fitness center - I even attempted to go today - I mean I actually got in the car and drove toward the gym for several minutes. But I had a weird reaction to some medication and realized I was unsafe to drive the rest of the way. I think I'm really close to getting a new job, and once I have that new job, my plan is to hit the fitness center every day after work. I need to figure out some way to create a routine. I've gained a lot of weight in the last couple of years due to various events; my first breakup, entering grad school, failing grad school, moving away from home, etc. I tend to go in cycles of losing weight (making a genuine effort to work out and watch what I eat) and gaining weight (basically saying "fuck it" and sitting at home eating pasta and ice cream every night). I think I'm overdue to start losing weight again, so I recently bought an exercise bike to use at home. I tried making a gym schedule and sticking to it, but it's very easy to stay and home and avoid exercise when you have to travel to the gym. Having equipment at home means you have no excuse, you can even sit and cycle while watching TV. I've been on the bike for at least half an hour every day this week, and avoided big meals/soda/ice cream. Obviously haven't seen visible improvement yet, but I finally feel like I'm on the right track. Wish me luck and good luck to everyone else here!

Way to be pro-active, Stauderhorse! Looking forward to hearing more of your progress in these threads
![]() Olives just keep going forward and don't let little missteps like a cookie hold you back forever. As for the gym, you'll be better about a routine in the future if you keep a routine now. Even if you don't feel like doing whatever high-intensity stuff you were doing before, just the act of changing your clothes, driving there, doing something, driving home and taking a shower is fantastic routine-wise. Just to keep you in the mindset. I was just benched from my activities for a month but I made it to the gym almost completely on schedule (5 days a week after work) even if it was just to walk for 20 minutes and go home because I felt shitty. Regardless of what exercise I did or didn't get, I am so glad I just kept up the routine. Now that I am back to my regular intense routine (a whole 2 days in a row wow!) I am so glad that I am not having to force myself to do everything else (ie getting up and going). It's still routine! Good luck...keep going! |

I kinda spoke too soon. I went to the supermarket today, which involved about 45 minutes or so of walking and being on my feet. By the time I was done, I was in a bit of pain. So I'm taking it easy for another few days before I start walking on purpose, and even then, it'll be to the library, which is about 2/3 of a mile from my house, and back.

This is my push that will make me lose this last 10kg. Need to get in better shape for this - the run's easy, I need some upper body strength work. Plus, mud. And a cow level! Yeay! So far outside my comfort zone here, it's nervous making. Nearly 135kg me still lives in my head. If I finish this last 10k will be smack in the middle of my BMI (I'm right at the top of it now but still visibly overweight.) I think training will take care of half of it, and I'll have to cut back to do the other half. Have been just maintaining since Christmas - mostly to see if I can. Still tracking calories though, or I go off the rails. So...yeah. |

I am finally able to post in this thread. I have been suffering from fairly debilitating depression but my doctor gave me meds which are working and I can finally think about myself and getting healthy again.
I have gained 20 pounds in the last year and I need to see it gone (I DO NOT want to have to invest in a new summer wardrobe...unless it is smaller, of course ).So, I am just doing very simple things. No more eating out. No more second dinner (seriously, I was having a normal, healthy dinner and then having some form or takeout/high calorie meal at like 10 pm). Basically, I am just eating the healthy diet I was feeding my kids. While I am not exercising in the traditional sense yet, I am definitely doing more things that require activity. Cleaning, fixing stuff around the house, teaching my son to ride his bike, painting. Anyway, I have only been at it for two weeks but I have seen 10 pounds drop off. I will, however, have to get a little more official about the whole thing. I did some math on yesterday's food and I only ate 950 calories. Gah! That's not good at all. I have sucessfully lost 50 pounds before so I know what I am doing. The most important thing, in fact, is that I make sure to have a 'big calorie day' once a week. It seems to confuse my metabolism just enough to keep losing and not plateau. |

That's a good question. I don't see one started for April, and at this point, it seems kinda silly to me to start an entirely new thread every month or two for what is essentially an ongoing discussion.
Perhaps we can ask the mods for a permanent stickied thread. I'm about to ask the question in ATMB to work out some of the possible options. In fact, since there is now a smoking-cessation support thread, it may be time to consider a sub-forum for us "losers and quitters". |

And, to stay on topic, I had another icky week. I haven't weighed in yet this week, but I still haven't been able to get much activity in. The munchies from not smoking are starting to creep in, and while I'm not snacking on crap, fruit has calories, too, even if it has zero points. If I lose tomorrow, it'll be a miracle. |

So, I found out that Cottage Cheese has a great amount of protein and is good for breakfast (especially since I eat breakfast at my desk and cooking is out of the question).
I discovered a fatal problem this morning. Cottage Cheese is gross! I doused it with pepper which made it barely tolerable but eeewww. I am going to try to stick it out. Maybe I will get used to it? It certainly is making me feel full (which was the goal). It's lunch time now and I am still full. |
