Just wanted to bump this to say that some of y'all are outdoing yourselves in this.

Some of these drawings are inspired!

I'm in the sixties with two of you, and in the fifties with a bunch more!

Keep 'em coming!

Sorry I've been making some of you wait for a few days, I'll try to get to my drawings. I'm stuck on a couple, so I may have to pass.

I'm trillian75 if anyone wants to play. I wasn't sure about this game at first, but it's grown on me after I finally found some people who took it seriously and didn't just write the word on the screen.

I agree. If you just hit up random people it's not much fun. Future players from here
can always add me.

So sorry Shijinn!!

I commented on your nice Firefox drawing, then stupidly pressed done instead of trashing the page

If you get this in time, it was SAD, like I am now!

I have done that once.

This game desperately needs a chat feature between drawings.

Question for you guys--how many games do you have in your list? Not how many have Play next to them, but just games? And what happens when you Nudge someone?

Labtrash--playin' with ya. I did the lab (dog) yesterday and I think "knock" today. (I never said I was good at this game!)

I think I have about a dozen running games. About half play regularly, which to me means at least once a day.

Not sure on the nudging. If they want to play they'll play sooner or later.

I got a message once that said, "XXXXXX is waiting for you to play in Draw Something!"

I assume that was a nudge.

oh ok, Labtrash. i wasn't sure it looked right, more like blue balls with a swish.

i should have around 20 games now, after adding you guys. i only play when i feel like it, so i guess i have enough to always be able to draw something when the mood strikes.

If this game has taught me anything, it's that drawing hands is VERY difficult, and that everyone knows Darth Vader, no matter how crappily he's drawn.

Fisha, if you see this in time, I made a smartass comment about your bicycle and clicked Done instead of the trash can. The word's VOMIT if you want, or you can punish me by Passing, although I realize that effectively punishes you too.

I'm not much of a poster here, but that's me you are playing. Big Bluestem? Blue Bluestem? Whoever I am. I'm playing Drain Bead, too.

I can't draw, but I like to think my pictures have a certain pathetic charm.

Got it. It's hard to keep track wh en the names are different.

One thing I do, is if I can't figure it out right away, I exit and come back later instead of just passing. Thanks to everyone who tries and tries and tries with me.

Haha! Hey, I figured it out. I'm getting pretty good at interpretation!

So far my best was when a non-Doper friend drew me five dice, all showing the same number up, and I had to interpret "WEAVE" because he accidentally fat-fingered that on his phone instead of "YAHTZEE" and didn't realize it.

BTW, tip, which might kind of be cheating but I've used it a couple of times: If you use one of the online Scrabble word finder programs it sometimes helps if you don't want to pass. So far I've only done it twice (once for WEAVE, but I got RAILROAD all on my own! )

BTW, does anybody else think there are far too many Hunger Games references in this game? So far I've gotten as choices: Katniss, Haymitch, Gale, and Effie. Are 13-year-old girls making up the word choices?

I had about 10 plays waiting on me last night. 3 of them were the same word.

Got a stylus last night from Best Buy. Hopefully it will help my (sometimes) suck-ass drawings.

By the way, here is a neat video from Mike Matei, where he talks about Draw Something. What's neat is that it shows him drawing amazing things with it.

Did you know you can run low on ink?

No biggie. I upgraded last night, but after I had played that round.

That's happened to me before. One time I noticed before I sent it, the other time I didn't.

Wow, that's impressive! Makes me want to go get a stylus and put some more effort into my drawings! I always worry that if I take too long my opponent will get bored watching me fiddle around, but I guess there's always the "skip" button.

I had no idea you could run out of ink.

I'm guessing there's a limit to the data block they're able to send for whatever reason, and they have to send data about what people draw as they drew it, so at some point you run out of data allocaton to describe the drawing, hence running out of ink.

Yeah, but isn't it interesting how different people choose to depict it? I play with one person who draws everything from a looking-down perspective. I imagine I aggravate people by WAY overdrawing, adding superfluous details first and then finally getting to the point, which, come to think of it, somewhat mimics the way I talk....

What happens if you comment and the other person hasn't upgraded? They just don't see it?

Hello Everyone

I came out of lurker status after discovering this game today. Though I used to post somewhat frequently way back.

I've been adding people from this thread and always looking for fellow players, please add me: mlawca

Fair warning: my artistic skills are quite lacking

My take on this game after a few weeks of playing:

- The word base is annoying. The word list recycles quickly; I've drawn or seel "Eskimo", "Firefly" and "Olympics" about 5 times each already (just to name a few). Words get concatenated, like "thankyou". And some "words" I don't even understand or recognize, though I guess that's par for any game of this type.

- Getting a stylus would be nice, as would having a larger drawing surface like an iPad, but I'm doing it on a smartphone with my finger and think the crude line drawings are part of the challenge (how to communicate the most with the minimum space/lines, versus a full color detailed illustration).

- Two or three times, I've either had to give up on guessing the word, or watched my partner give up on guessing my word, because the right letters weren't even there! I finally got an iPhone screencap of this, when my friend bailed on guessing my illustration of TECHNO because there was no H in his letter set.

All in all, a fun game but also easily a time sink given how long it takes to watch people solve a drawing and then to draw one yourself. Sure you can skip the watching step but it is part of the fun, to see how quickly or slowly they get it (if at all).

Yeah, that was me.
There is a certain amount of knowing what your partner knows and doesn't know that helps. I'm sure the drawing was fine for whatever a katniss is, but there was no way I was going to get that one, like ever. You could have posted an actual picture of a katniss from the movie and I still wouldn't guess it right

I'm sachert on DrawSomething. My full SDMB handle was already taken. Just no Hunger Games!

Mahaloth, I'll update the app when I get home. Thanks for the note. I never know when I should be downloading updates.
