Yawn.

Busy weekend ahead including (hopefully) finishing the rest of my homework. The first part of the week was too stressful and overwhelming so I didn't get anything done yesterday other than going to class.

Happy Firday!

Greetings from Orange Park FL and an incredibly slow wi-fi connection. Last night, we dined at Whitey's, and yes, I got the scallops - still yum! It was a fun time that ended too soon, but we'll be going to our friends' house tonight for dinner so we'll have more time and freedom to chat.

Other plans for today are breakfast in our former favorite place, lunch at Sonny's, and a drive out Beach Blvd to a fish place that FCD found advertised on the placemat at Whitey's. We may drive around a bit and comment on how much things have changed since we lived here (yoiks, it's been 8 years since I moved, 10 for my sweetie!!) Then tomorrow we hit the road early and with luck, we'll be home before dark. I'm ready.

It was nice visiting with the inlaws and we were able to help them out with some heavy chores, but in the course of 5.5 days or so, I heard many repeats of stories. I know older people tend to do that. I've been accused of doing it myself. Doesn't make it any more fun... Yesterday morning, we drove to Lutz where FCD bought a box of rocks for the aquarium that the guy had gotten from the Gulf the day before. I hope most of the corals on the rocks survive the ride home - some were really cool!

And that's it for now. My sweetie is still sleeping and I think I'm going to hit the shower. Happy Firday!! Hugs to all, even if you don't need them! MWAH!

I'm going with option 3 as well, as long as you take the dog!

Nothing exciting going on here today, just irk for the irksome. I have to go home and feed my cats, then go over to a friend's house tonight and feed their cat and four ferrets, go home again and do half an hour on the Wii, have a bath, get dinner and then collapse in a heap on the sofa.

'im indoors has headed north across the border to visit his family so I have a weekend to myself. That means tomorrow there will be shopping and cocktails! Yay!

At some point there may be house-cleaning and floor-vacuuming but that will have to wait until after the fun stuff happens first.

So then it's all settled, option 3. I'm glad we could all come to a final, binding decision.

Hey it was a list, what do you expect? At least we didn't throw a Hi Opal! in there.

I get to start moving today. I'm getting the keys after work at noon. I'll go over and inspect the place and take pictures. Then sushi for lunch with a friend and picking up my desk and bookshelf from the thrift store where I bought it last week. I'm hoping the two of us can get the desk into my place. I'm a weakling and the stairs down to my place a tiny bit tricky. We were planning on making a few trips back and forth, but since I'm renting a truck that's probably not necessary.

I'll try to remember to share pictures on Monday.

I really am working on my homework now but honest to God this woman drives me batty. I'm working on revisions to a paper that I already submitted to her and in the middle of it she asked me a completely irrelevant question. Kind of like if I was talking about crop production in Kansas and she asked me what my thoughts were on narwhals.

I DON'T KNOW HOW TO ANSWER!!!

Yes, I could send her an email, but I want to finish this now.

Finally got my registration paid up. I also got a card for Night Audit Lady. No update today. Big Boss was busy running someone off property and police were getting involved when I was there. I chatted with Happy the Maintenance Guy and Inspector Bruce for a bit as they were watching the happenings and goings on.

Turns out there was a wreck on 240 yesterday that backed traffic up. Something fell off a truck and someone hit it. Welcome to Asheville driving.

Good news is my leg finally stopped hurting. My filled tooth is still sensitive, or rather the tooth right next to it is. I do not understand the human body.

Neither do I.

Another thing I don't understand is how it can be cheaper for a product to be made in the US, bought from a Canadian vendor and shipped from Australia back to the US, than it is to just buy it in the US.

eta - I never chimed in on those choices, Harvey. I would extend option three to 2 months. A month, when you're job hunting, goes by faster than you think.

Hi, everybody. First, a big thank you for all the continued support. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if the board sent out a goon squad to throw the lot of us in the ocean just to get some relief. And honestly, I wouldn't blame you one bit. I think I'd be a little relieved.

I thought I was having problems picking an option. My mom's cycling through all possible variations of emotion about twice a day. Also, she's now fucking with me.

So, yesterday, after sad talk that things are really toxic for me here and I may very well be better off in Texas, with her full support, and another talk about how I'm insensitive to my father's needs and way too pushy with her and I have no idea how expensive things are. She also tells me how at lunch with Dad, Dad continues to insist that I betrayed him by calling the police, and that no one has any business telling him he can't drive.

In the evening, she watched a movie with my dad. She also told him that I'm going to leave and move back to Texas. And she's surprised that he gets upset. At bedtime, she asks me to give him his medications - even though I've said I won't have anything to do with his care - and because I'm a squishy idiot, I do. Dad is downstairs alone, drinking wine from a coffee cup. He wants to talk. My mom set me up, dammit.

First, he wants to apologize for anything he might have said that hurt my feelings. Second, he never meant for me to think that he doesn't love me, or even that he doesn't like me. This is so patently absurd that I can only sit there and nod and think to myself "my father - what's left of him - is a crazy man". In the course of this unreal conversation, Dad completely denies having any memory problems at all.

I escape, get ready for bed, and talk to Mom a little bit. After I get into bed, Dad comes up to talk some more (there is no escape), and says flat out that he does not want me to leave. He is red-eyed and as close to crying as I've ever seen him in my life. I accept this request, somehow managing to say neither yes nor no. Then he and Mom have a big hug, and she's really, really proud of him.

Yep, totally set up.

kanga does your dad act more "normal" when he drinks? I'm askin' because I've heard this about people with AD. My dad didn't drink so I never observed if it's true. Also, alcohol and his meds? At any rate, you need to stick with your plan to be gone even if just for a little while. You owe that to yourself and your sanity.

Did I, sittin' here with a cold beer, just give an alcohol lecture? Well, then, just put my picture in the dictionary for the definition of hypocrite.

Hey, for many of us, alcohol is a link to sanity. If I couldn't have a beer (please note: A) every now and then, my head would explode.

Dad? When he could still drive, he regularly drank a bottle of wine a night. Running through one of the standard lists of "could you be an alcoholic" questions, he nailed at least half of them - denial, hiding drinking, drinking at inappropriate times. I saw it when I first got out here and asked Mom about it and said that he could very well have depression and be self-medicating. She blew me off at first, and after a year, kinda-sorta agreed with me, but refused to talk to his doctor about it. Now that he can't drive anymore, I'd hoped his alcohol intake would diminish, but Mom says she wants to pick her battles and is willing to see him continue to down a bottle a night.

However, because it's up to me and bro to buy groceries most days, and if you buy more than a bottle of wine a day, he'll drink it, there are days when he doesn't get any. I couldn't tell you if he had any wine before Monday, but once he had the car, he stopped for lunch, and it's a given he had two or three glasses before driving home. That's one of the things I tried to stress to the police when I reported him missing.

And you know, validation comes at odd times. Mom contacted his doctor a few days ago and asked to have a nurse come out and assess his mental status - probably memory tests and cognitive skills. The nurse called today to set up the time, and we talked about Dad's history.

Has he been treated for depression? Well, no. Why not? Good question. I had talked to Mom about it, but she hadn't pursued it. Is he on anything for his mood? We're starting him on Seroquel today (and it's apparently an incredibly tiny dose). Oh, and he gets a dose of Xanax. So, he's on a mood tranquilizer and a sedative. Yep. Has anyone discussed the possibility of depression? Really need to ask my mother that.

Why is he getting Xanax? Because he wakes up in the middle of the night, anxious, and wanders. He locked himself out of the house and woke us up by ringing the doorbell. Well, had we installed any alerts or alarms or locks? No, I had researched it thoroughly, presented the information to my mom, and got . . . nothing.

It took ten minutes of filling in details and repeatedly telling the nurse she had to speak to my mother.

One of my friends came up with the best phrase: "Handle it, but don't fix it."

Oh, and my brother isn't speaking to me just now, and I don't know why. *sigh*

Aw, phouka, sorry everything is so frustrating. You're amazing for trying to help find ways to address the issues, but yeah, the lack of actual fixing makes it seem wise for you to take a break from home, at the very least.

Long day, plus also going in to work tomorrow. Two more weeks and this project is over. Yay! Is it two weeks yet?

Very sleepy, so I think I'll turn in and check in more thoroughly in the a.m.

Higs.

We only have one Goon on this board and being that she really isn't a mumper, I'm not sure she'd be interested or up to the task.

Nothing productive to say, really, except, hang on phoukaroo!

Just got home. Going to look for a snack I don't really need and head to bed.

I'm going to go off topic to relate two completely unrelated things:

- we've had (for CA) a hellacious storm pass through today, and the poor puppy is terrified. Not just the thunder, which is rare for SoCal, but also the winds, and when the rain really gets going. There's so much, it made it over the mountains into the desert. Hey, maybe Anza-Borrego will get their wildflowers a couple of months late!

- I had a very puckish moment the other day. At a restaurant, I used the toilet and found someone had written "Meghan B was here." I happened to have a pencil on me, so I wrote below it, "Liar! She was in the other stall." I hope I confused poor little Meghan.

Oh, this morning, my coffee maker managed to move the water from the resevoir to the pot without passing it through the coffee. I guess sometimes your coffeemaker needs a cup of coffee before it can make your coffee.

Good morning, all! Nice stories, phouka. The restroom stall caper made me giggle. Also, it's more likely that one of us would swoop in to drag you out of there, by the way.

Also, no one answered ShinyCat's question about Kanga's nicknames. And I don't remember the answer.

Continued good thoughts headed out to Spaz and NAL and her family.

Trying to figure out a fun thing to do once I'm done with work. And I need to make a list of things to do at work so that I'm focused on the absolutely necessary.

Off to consider breakfast.

Hugs all.

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall.
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
And all the King's horses,
and all the King's men,
Had aig sallit for lunch again.

I had a gnawin' and a cravin' for some aig sallit so I made some and we et it for N.O.L.

That is the latest excitatement from swampland.

Stayed up late watching hockey and drinking beer. Slept til 10:30.

Been a bad week for me and being related to deaths.

First, and old high school buddy was killed when a truck hit him at work. That wake is tomorrow.

Then this happened. He was a student at the district I used to work in, and the town I still live in. I know a lot of people that knew him including his principal, and the son of a friend who plays on a rival team the same age.

Umm.. evening!
*hugs* to those who need them.

Had a decent day today, spend half of it trying to find worms at my allotment to entertain my friend's small child. She likes worms. If she's wearing gloves, so they don't yuk on her. Got slightly muddy, as it's been tipping it down all week. I've been doing very much nothing all week, and not posting.

I *did* have busy plans for tomorrow- I was going to be going to an apiary day; I joined the local beekeepers' group a while back, as I'm hoping to get bees, then immediately became broken, and haven't been to any events. The first open day that I've been able to walk for is tomorrow, and I was really looking forward to going. I just went to get the directions to the farm it's at and... I don't have them. Anywhere.

They're not on the message I thought they were, they're not available on their website, they're not on freaking google. All I could find was a mention that it was near the west side of a local airfield, next to a suburb of the city. A suburb that's several miles away from said airfield... It does have a 'message us for more information' thing on the website, but it's 11pm now, and I doubt they'll be checking that first thing tomorrow, so it looks like I'm not going.

Have a splendid sunday people I shall be having a long lie in if I don't get to go play with bees.

Evening. We are in one piece luckily. Tornado sirens went off at 1.30 this morning - we didn't here them them until closer to 2.30. Tornado touch down was about 1 miles south of us. As well as south of OKC yesterday afternoon. It was brief and no one was hurt but I am pretty scared right now. We cannot hear the sirens in the house and there have been no weather radios to be had in this city for several days. We are expecting more tonight from about midnight on. All we can do is stay in the house and hope things don't come out as bad as they are predicting.

Urgh. mr ems is being a shit about me freaking out. I know I am freaking out but don't make fun of me because this is my first tornado season.

Note to self.....get the hell out of OK by the end of the year, And leave mr ems here to enjoy next spring!

I'm hoooooooooome at last!!! Yay!!

We picked up our daughter at 6 at her friend's house and headed north. We got here just a wee bit before 7 this evening. Long-ass day on the road and I'm glad to be in my own house again. And, for the record, I hate the freekin' Carolinas. Heading south, we came to a stop on the interstate twice for no apparent reason (no evidence of accidents or anything) and on the way home today, we were in a 10-mile long backup in SC because everyone had to slow down and gawk at the semi overturned in the median near the other side of the interstate. I was not a happy driver.

But we're home and unpacked and the kittehs seem to be happy to have us back. We had some bean soup for supper - FYI, navy bean soup does not freeze well. But the ice cream we had for dessert was good. It's nice and cool, so the house is open and I anticipate sleeping after I change the bed. Apparently a cat horked on the comforter and it seeped thru to the sheets. ick.

Hugs to all who need them, especially Kanga! I'll try to share some of the highlights tomorrow - I'm too pooped out tonight.

MWAH!!

You took 95 didn't you. Don't take 95. That's the worst interstate in the eastern US.

It is, for all intents and purposes, the only N/S interstate in the eastern US

It just occurred to me that if I'm going to talk about my boyfriend now and then that he should have his own proper nickname. From now on he shall be known as the Sweet Avenger because he's very sweet and he likes the Avengers.

Well, anyways, the Sweet Avenger and I just saw Mirror Mirror and it was definitely different than your classic Snow White story, but quite good. Nathan Lane was especially funny. Tonight we were both running late getting to the show and actually ended up having perfect timing as we walked in just as the actual movie started.

At this point now that I'm back home I'm going to attempt to work on my last long paper and *maybe* finish it tonight. We'll see how that goes as I'm already pretty tired.

Good night, everyone!

I rubbed Mrs. Plant's back (The New and Improved Mrs. Plant, who I dated in 1982, not the Evile Ex Mrs Plant) and she is asleep so that she can get up at an unG-dly hour and go to work.
I will blissfully sleep until seven Ante Meridian until I have to get up and wait for the Tree Guy Who Didn't Show Up Today to finally come cut the dead tree down for a million bucks.

Did you ever have a joke so old and yet still so funny that you haven't any idea what it's actually about anymore and all you remember is the hysterical punchline?

Yeah, that's me and some old friends talking about 'that one Star Trek' episode...

Yes, I'm working on the paper. Just taking a momentary break. It's actually going better than I expected because it's a compilation of three previous papers that we had to do. Mostly just creative rearranging of content with a little bit more added here and there.

High wind warning until 3am.....severe weather with tornado potential should hit the OKC metro area including our town to the west at around 4AM.

Time to grab some sleep!
