By itself maybe it wouldn't have much meaning.

In conjunction with Nugent's previous remarks calling Obama a piece of shit who needs "to suck on my machine gun" while holding a semi-automatic rifle in the air? Well, I think even you could see how it might get the attention of the folks charged with the Presidents safety.

You guys are totally misreading this whole thing. This was just Ted's poorly worded expression of the great admiration he holds for Joe Biden.

Nice to know that you hold the Secret Service's judgement as to what is a threat, in such utter contempt.

What then is your parsing of that quote? What meaning do you think he was trying to impart? What, is he saying, would kill him, and/or for what would he be put in jail?

I'm surprised his previous threats against Obama and Hillary Clinton didn't result in charges against him. They were much more explicit than this.

I was going to snarkily encourage Clothy to read for content.
But I realized that would just be gratuitously cruel.

Well, now I'm curious.... does Nugent mean a re-elected Obama will have him killed or interred? That a re-elected Obama will drive Nugent to criminal activity?

Gotta admit he had a unique...style...when it came to dodging the draft.

But it gets better. Here is Nugent talking about what he would have done had he gone to Vietnam:

Quote:
"... if I would have gone over there, I'd have been killed, or I'd have killed, or I'd kill all the hippies in the foxholes ... I would have killed everybody," he told the Detroit Free Press in an interview published July 15, 1990."

So, he would have been a bigger menace to our own troops than the NVA.

The guy is seriously not right in the head.

I'm not huge on the whole "gun fetishist" line of argument that gets taken in gun control threads, but I really do think it applies to Mr. Nugent. He really does seem to get off on holding weapons, talking about weapons, etc. He always seems to be waving them around or bragging about how he would use them. Worth noting that when he gets all chest thumpy about his guns, it never seems to be about defending his family or stopping criminals. Tends to be more along the lines of Yosemite Sam.

Ah well. I'm sure all that hyper masculine bluster is a way to protect his creamy nougat center.

Clearly, once Obama secures a second term, he is going to unleash his true Kenyan Muslim Socialist Agenda™ and ban all firearms. At which point, Mr. Nugent will be at the top of the ATF list, and he will either be arrested, or gunned down in a blaze of glory defending his (and our) constitutional rights.

Hmm, so the serial pedophile and draft dodging braggart is trash talking. I doubt he'll go to jail but I hope they put the scare into him. Might be nice to not have this squicky subhuman as a primary spokesman for gun rights (I speak as a gun owner).

Nugent is a douche, but having seen the video, I don't see a threat.

It could be he means "I will kill Obama;" it could just as easily be "I will be killed or jailed by the evil Obama regime."

Given the context of his rant (Against Supreme Court rulings), and given that "if ____ is elected, they will cruelly oppress us" rhetoric is pretty standard from both sides, I default to the latter.

Not sure where that came from.

About the closest I know that comes to that is the following which, while adding to his creepiness, does not label him as a pedophile in my mind:

Quote:
In 1978, Nugent began a relationship with seventeen-year-old Hawaii native Pele Massa. Due to the age difference they could not marry so Nugent joined Massa's parents in signing documents to make himself her legal guardian, an arrangement that Spin magazine ranked in October 2000 as #63 on their list of the "100 Sleaziest Moments in Rock".

I think it could also mean that Nugent fears that a 2nd Obama term means that the evil government will kill or jail him, and that it's not a death threat. What I can't figure out is if that is more stupid or less stupid than a veiled threat.

Does he think they are going to round up all non-Democrats into concentration camps? Gun owners? Or what?

Either way, the man's a pure imbecile.

Quite possibly he was implying that in his second term Obama would establish a Stalinist state and round up all the counter-revolutionaries, meaning that Nugent would end up in an internment camp where he would eventually be executed. A lot of people have this narcissistic fantasy about being a bold enemy of oppression who dies gloriously for the cause.

There was no explicit, and probably no implicit, threat in Nugent's words, but someone definitely needs to take him aside and tell him to calm a down a bit. He certainly seems to be suffering from a bad case of Celebrity Bubble Syndrome.

Yeah, I think his other comments are much more readily interpreted as a direct physical threat to the president (or, at the least, Democrats in general). This one, while majorly idiotic, isn't quite there. He probably envisions himself holed up in a bunker, defending himself from the evil Obama regime, either killed or captured for being a True Patriot.

Yes. I haven't heard much about it lately, but early in the Obama's "regime", there was a meme floating around among the right wing nuts that Obama was building secret concentration camps.

Great headline, btw:

Secret camps and guillotines? Groups make birthers look sane

Quote:
WASHINGTON — Is the federal government building secret camps to lock up people who criticize President Barack Obama?

Will it truck off young people to camps to brainwash them into liking Obama's agenda? Are government officials planning to replicate the French Revolution's Reign of Terror, using the guillotine to silence their domestic enemies?

No. The charges, of course, are not true.

However, the accusations are out there, a series of fantastic claims fed by paranoia about the government.

Doesn't this whole thing kind of make Ted look like a wuss? I mean if he feels that Barack Obama is such a threat to America, why has he waited so long? Shouldn't he have done whatever it is he's hinting he might do back in 2009?

John Wayne wouldn't have said, "Okay, you stole half my herd of cattle. But I'm warning you. If you come back and steal the rest of them, I'll get mad and I might do something to you."

Well, gun sales have been soaring recently in fear of an Obama second term.

Cuz you know Obama has spent his whole first term going after gun owners.

The mentality baffles me. Even IF Obama went after guns in his second term he'd need to get past congress and, perhaps, the Supreme Court. Both of which are substantial hurdles. And even IF he could do all that it'd take months to years to sort out. Obama cannot wake up one morning and declare guns are illegal and *POOF* it happens. There'd be lots of time to see the train coming and do something about it.

Rationality seems to be in short supply for a lot of these people.

They see the president as having a bunch of buttons and dials on his desk. One button launches the nukes, another makes guns illegal, and there's a dial where he sets the gas prices. More dials for inflation and unemployment.

It's kind of hard to terrify people over a re-election campaign. What are you going to say?

"For God's sake, America, wake up! Barack Obama had no sooner set foot in the Oval Office, then he issued an Executive Order authorizing a National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform! And you know what happened then! Ten months later that commission released its report! Do we want something like that to happen again in 2013?"

Ted Nugent stands by his NRA rant.
Quote:
"I'm a black Jew at a Nazi-Klan rally, and there are some power-abusing, corrupt monsters in our federal government that despise me because I have the audacity to speak the truth."
He thinks he's being investigated for talking truth to power but he never explains if this truth involves killing the president or killing himself. He needs to clarify his position. Perhaps if he said something like, "Wang dang dilly, love that underage poontang! There's an arrow in my pork chop! Dang varmint hootenoggies!"

BTW, isn't he from Detriot? Why does he have such a hick country accent?

To even us supporters of gun rights, is it still in doubt that the NRA isn't in the gun-Rights business, rather than the Keeping the NRA In Business business?

In all organizations like this, membership falls into two catagories: Cynical Opportunist and Useful Idiot. Guess into which one Ted Nugent fits?

As I noted upthread, I have a very low opinion of Ted Nugent and I wish he would go away. Further, I will note that Obama has done nothing at all WRT to gun regulations. However, the paranoia over potential unilateral anti-gun activity by a POTUS is not entirely without basis.
As the head of the executive branch, he can issue executive orders that pro-gun people will find odious and for which there is no recourse. Other presidents have done so. He can ban importation of guns and/or ammunition from foreign nations. It is because of such an order that Chinese guns, save for a couple of shotguns, are no longer sold in the US though they are freely bought and sold in Canada. He can order the BATFE to interpret regulations in the strictest possible way; this becomes important when you consider that the BATFE can restrict firearms based on whether or not they have a "sporting purpose" and they are the ones who get to decide what a "sporting purpose" is. Under his orders they can, through licensing regs, reduce the number of retail outlets for firearms.
I am not saying he would do any of these things, simply that they have been done by previous presidents.

Dammit. Now I have a shitty Ted Nugent song in my head. He can fuck off for that alone. I hope if the SS (!) interviews him, he gets scared and pees his pants (by accident, not because he thinks he can get out of it because of that).

Just to add to the wonder that is Ted Nugent, a few years back when he opened for some other band, he went off on a tirade about the local sheriffs office and was saying we should all go down there together and...do something, I don't remember if he said shoot them or just implied violence of some sort.

I didn't know he was a nutjob before that, and at the time I thought he was just trying to get crowd approval in some inappropriate way.

He can ban importation of guns and/or ammunition from foreign nations. It is because of such an order that Chinese guns, save for a couple of shotguns, are no longer sold in the US though they are freely bought and sold in Canada.
And Lord knows if there's one thing God-fearing, red-blooded, red state Americans hate with a fury, it's being deprived of their Chinese imports and forced to buy American.

Well, I owned a couple Chinese-made guns and was not overwhelmed by their quality. It was largely a non-issue to me when they were banned from importation. The most I can say for them was that they were inexpensive and could be used as the basis for a project gun. OTOH, there are some very interesting, good quality guns from Israel, Australia, and several other countries that were similarly banned. The arbitrariness of how these decisions are made boggles the mind. I can't buy a Tavor or a Gailil frm Israel or a Dragunov from Russia, but I could buy (if I wanted them which I don't) stacks of indifferently made AK-clones from Romania. It is this very arbitrariness that irritates a fellow.

So you are irritated, and you own a gun.

You must be threatening to assassinate someone, but I can't figure out who.
