Dindin is et and OYKW is back at his place because he has a buncha paperirk to deal with, poor thing. I was kinda hopin' for a weeknight sleepover.

However since that is not to be I reckon I'll put together the ground beast and cabbage casserole for tomorrow night's dindin.

Welcome Jim! I also flirt with all the new guys, so, how you doin'?

SB I am aok had a little traffic time ride with the people who want to kill me(Houston Car Drivers) as always..... interesting and its getting a tad warm for the body armor. Sorry about the lost sleepover although I have forgotten what happens on them. Getting ready for din din and a IRK meeting with the annual drink too much with your coworkers and awkward moments party, that's all I have

Cheers

Welcome, Jim. Pleased to meetcha!

I had a really good customer service experience today. Back story first: While returning from the across the state with my son on Saturday, the damn moulding on the driver's side of my windshield came loose and was flapping in the wind. I'd had issues with it before, and had fixed it myself and all was good for a real long time.

Anyway, today I called local windshield/glass place and described my problem to the gal who answered the phone. She said to swing on by, and her manager would take a look at it. As soon as I walked in the door, the gal asked if I was the moulding person, and when I replied in the affirmative, the manager hopped up, walked out to my Expedition, took a look, pressed it all back in and then asked if I wanted it glued down. I replied that yes, I would like it glued down. He said, "Okay, no problem it'll be about 15 or 20 minutes". So, I sat in the waiting area and waited. Sure enough, fifteen minutes later, it was done and the manager drove my rig around front again, walked in to the waiting area, and handed me the keys. When I asked what I owed, he told me I didn't owe a thing. All he asked was that I remember his shop the next time my windshield had a chip or a crack.

You can bet I will remember. That kind of made my day. That stupid piece of moulding has been a problem for a long time. As I said earlier, I thought I had it fixed, and all was good for almost two years. Then I made the mistake of running it through the carwash last Friday. I opted for the Ultra Wash where they dry the car with the big blowers. I sat there sort of freaking out as I watched my windshield wipers being lifted up from the force of the air. I'll bet that's what caused the moulding to come loose again.

Anyway, it's fixed, and I'm a happy camper. There's a piece of tape holding it all in place, which I've been told to wait to remove until around 7:00 pm at the earliest.

The sun is out and it's actually above 70 degrees. I should go do something in the yard, but I'm still trying to recover from my crazy weekend.

Yay for customer service, Taters! I've had similar experiences with businesses, and they always leave me feeling all warm and fuzzy!

My sweetie should be home soon - I'm going to power down and assume the crochet position and await his arrival. See youse guys in the morning! Don't forget to tidy up before you go to bed!

MWAH!!

Am too lazy to plug in Internet, so am posting from phone. Electricians will be back tomorrow, hopefully to finish things up.

Am watching The Goodbye Girl - haven't seen it in 20 years or so. Still good.

Back tomorrow, hopefully with Internet.

Hugs all.

Morning all! Yes, it is still morning, I have been up since the crack of sparrow's fart and was at work insanely early. It's the start of exam week for us and I am (as usual) paranoid that I've forgotten something really important and it will all go horribly wrong. Of course I haven't, and it won't, but it still didn't stop me waking up at 5am after a bizarre dream involving a half-chopped chicken and a set of window blinds that were broken and worked on a coin-meter. What that has to do with Health Care Evaluation & Needs Assessment is quite beyond me.

Welcome JT! Hope you like it here, we are a friendly bunch despite what Nooner might tell you about the goat and the squid. *waves from a very safe distance across the Pond*

Oh boooooosssmaaaaaan!

It's nice having a boss who's technical and patient, I can bug him for these things. I'm writing that "Dataloads for Dummies" that I wish I'd gotten ten years ago. The Dummies part, I've got down pat.

Good morning, all! My sweetie finally dragged in after 8. There was a big accident in Hughesville - bad enough that they had to life-flight several folks out. And it's one of those places where there isn't an easy detour, so poor guy was stuck in his car for a short eternity (or so it seemed to him.) He's off to work now, still exhausted, and I've sprayed all the individual carpet stains I could find.

Yep - today is carpet-cleaning day! Woohoo!! Envy me!!! OK, I'm just spot-cleaning the worst places. I just can't get motivated to empty an entire room. But the stains are making me crazy, so with luck, they'll all be gone in short order. Other than that, I'm not sure what I'll do. It's still early and I'm not caffeinated.

Happy Tuesday!

Good Mornin' Y'all! Up and caffienated. I'd yawn but the caffiene has kicked in. 'Tis 70 Amurrkin out with a predicted high of 88 and rain. As hyoooooomid as it is out it should rain. Plus I have to spend most of the day in large and in charge Americus, Jawja. The fact that I have to drive somewhere is usually enough to produce torrents of Noahdic proportion. Still it should be a kinda fun day. It's a Council on Aging annual picnic/fun day and I'm there for PR purposes. I even have tchotchkes (love that word!) to hand out. I have a hundred pill box thingies. I figure senior citizens and pill boxes is a win-win kinda thing.

Taters yay for excellent customer service!

Nava I'd need "Dataloads for The Terminally Stoopid."

BooFae good luck with irk. I trust the pointy stick is extra sharp and pointy.

I suppose I should forage for brekkie and commence purtification for irk. Oh well. At least I get fed N.O.L . today. Free N.O.L. is always good, right?

Happy Tuesday Y'all!

I assume the Terminally Stoopid are functional illiterates (not to be confused with regular folks who didn't get schooling), thus no amount of manualing will ever work for them.

Rebo - I didn't know you were a biker chick! You seem like a nice, wholesome all-American mom... It's like suddenly discovering that June Cleaver was in Hell's Angels!!

I just finished spot cleaning the carpets in the dining room, living room, and family room. I just needed to use hot water because there was much soap residue on the various stains - maybe that's why they stay stained?? I did my best to rinse and extract as much of the leavin's as I could - we'll see how it looks when it dries. The house is open and the ceiling fan is on - that should help it dry faster.

It's sunny out, and we're threatened with rain tonight and tomorrow. I really should get outside and mow what little grass we have. Maybe in a little bit. Because in the interim, the Yard Fairies may show up and take care of it for me.

Well, it could happen...

My Dad and stepmother called last night. My Dad is in the hospital with double pneumonia and maybe something else; they were still waiting on some test results.

They were keeping him overnight and may keep him longer. He was most unhappy about this; but I told him they don't say they're keeping you just for shits and grins.

I wanted to go on down and bring both of them some food because they'd been down there for several hours and still hadn't gotten a room for him, but my stepmother didn't want me to. She told me she wanted my Dad to rest (as do I) and that she was bushed and was leaving as soon as my Dad got a room

She called me around nine last night and when she had left, he was in the ICU, but only because his assigned bed wasn't ready for him yet.

Anyway, I'm worried about him. The man can never sit still, always has to have a project, etc. He was out flying RC planes with a friend, when the friend's plane went down in the lake. He and the friend paddled out in a boat to retrieve the plane, and Dad was having hard time. Paddling back, he wasn't sure he was going to be able to make it to shore. Finally, (and I'm not entirely clear on this part), when he got in his rig and was driving, everything was going black. This is when an ambulance was called.

If he's still hospitalized when I get off work today; I'll go pay him a visit. I've already promised my sister who lives over in South Carolina that I'd report back to her.

My Dad was shocked to find out he had pneumonia and told the doctor that he rarely even catches a cold, so he he didn't understand how he could contract pneumonia. The reality is, with his form of leukemia, his platelet count is too low, the white count is rising, and his immunity is waaaay down.

When he first started telling me what happened, I was worried that it was his heart again. We've lost him more than a couple of times and they had to bring him back. Fortunately, this time, it's not the heart.

Jeebus.

The sun is out and it's supposed to be very nice. Too bad I'm stuck here at work.

Sometimes that "good customer service" is a wallet-lightening in disguise. A couple months ago when I took the car in for an oil change and a state inspection, they changed the oil, patched a tire that had a nail in it for free, and oh by the way, your front tires are worn and can't pass. They probably hoped I would be so happy about the surprise free tire repair that I'd immediately give them another $500 for the two tires.

Submitting the car as a fail to the state had me trapped. There's been a sting operation with the state where they investigate cars that fail at one shop then magically pass at another. State inspectors show up at your home to investigate, and more often than not, the shop that passes the car gets into hot water. So, it was off to the used tire shop to get legal for $60 instead of $500.

I'll still go to this shop for oil changes and maybe if I need new tires, but never again for inspections.

Blurf. Bob teh Wonder Pony is having problems with his stifles (the horse equivalent of human knees). He's old, has arthritis, and the weather has been rainy so I'm sure it's just temporary but I spent last night and this morning crying. He is on anti-inflammatories but they don't seem to be working this time. The vet is coming Thursday to give him an IV shot of hylauronic acid. He went through this last year so I hope it's just a one off (for the year 2012).

I want a cigarette but I quit smoking 4 years ago.

About a year ago, the local big-haired lady local-interest reporter at the paper wrote an article bragging about how she batted her eyes at a trooper to get out of an expired registration ticket, then took her car in to a friend's shop to get inspected. It failed, but her friend passed her anyway because Her Husband Is A Lawyer. I'm pretty sure, judging from the comments on that article, that someone reported her to the state.

Request for critique: this is the email template I'm sending out to respond to roommate ads. I think it's kind of stilted. What think y'all?

My name is (SpazCat) and I'm interested in renting the room you have listed on Craigslist. I'm 32 years old, single, no pets. I have a full-time (40 hrs/wk) job with a regular schedule. I am a bit introverted at home as my job requires me to work with people all day, so I tend to keep to myself when I'm off. I enjoy hiking, writing, crocheting, old movies, and computer games. I'm a neat person and I like to keep my personal space tidy because I find a lot of clutter distracting.

You can reach me either at (email I don't care about) or (phone number). After 4 p.m. is usually the best time to reach me during the week or all day Sunday and Monday. I look forward to hearing back from you.

In between the paragraphs I ask a couple of questions about the place and the arrangements, and I tweak each one slightly to the ads I'm responding to so they know I'm not a scammer.

Spaz I think it sounds good but I've never actually responded to a roommate ad so I don't know if my opinion is any good. Frankly, you sound like the perfect roommate to me (either that or a deranged psychopath who comes off as the perfect roommate at first).

I got a D- in Chemistry. WTF? I can't imagine how she could have possibly thought I deserved that! I missed half the labs and missing only 2 is an immediate fail. I missed half the discussions and half the tests (including the final). There is no way at all that I earned a D- and I still have to take the class over so what was the point? She might have thought she was doing me a favor but no matter how bad my pseudotumor made my semester, I don't want passing grades handed to me.

On the educational flip side, I have the honors and awards ceremony from Quinsig tomorrow. I'm going to wear a skirt and nylons and everything! My trial run of the outfit for Sweetie's opinion on it resulted in all 3 dogs freaking out at the scary stranger in the room. Mayhaps I should stop dressing like a tomboy all the time.

My mom killed the Mother's Day surprise. She's so paranoid about forgetting something important that she keeps asking lots of questions and it got to the point that not answering her questions would have broken the surprise anyway so I just told her. She's over the moon with excitement. Between the award ceremony, my graduation, and the opera, my ladylike outfit will get to be worn 3 whole times!!

Now I have to go buy some vinegar so I can deep clean the Bunn for Sweetie. He said the coffee has started tasting like Dunkin Donuts coffee and that means it's time to clean the innards.

The yard fairies didn't show up, and I couldn't be bothered. I'll mow tomorrow. Tonight, I'm making a hat. The food bank that Mom's AARP group supports also doles out hats and scarves in cold weather. They specifically requested hats for kids, so I found a few patterns and I'm trying them out. One I like, and I think I like the second one even better - we'll see when I finish it. I want to find a couple more - maybe one with ear flaps.

So that will be my evening.

Coffee maker is soaking and I smashed the top of my head on the edge of the counter. Why is it that head smashes feel like they're bleeding even when they're not?

Welp, back to MST3K and Diablo. Exactly 1 week from the release of Diablo 3!! I've been waiting almost a decade for this game to come out. Who wants to bet that I get offered a job the day it comes out?

We finally grew enough "grass" to warrant mowing. Of course it has barely stopped raining since then. If it stops raining tomorrow I will also be out there mowing. The "grass" and dandylions are so high now that I can barely find my lilac twigs (which have sprouted new growth!) This is pretty bad considering that when I planted the lilac twigs, I removed all grass imposters from around them.

hmm, looks like my next opportunity to mow might be Friday. Thunderstorms tomorrow!! WooHoo! Weather.com changed their layout and I hate it!

Yeah the new M/C mirrors came in and they are beautiful, put em on just now. I would go for a ride but the sky is rather ominous. Will someone tell me how to post pix here? Thanks in advance

Howdy Y'all! Busy day today. I had fun at the event. I was a judge for a senior citizen dance contest even. However, bein' outside all day has aggravated my sinuses. The promised rain is finally startin' so that may help. The ground beast and cabbage casserole I made for dindin was really good.

Read but not much retained. Thus, yays, boos, hugs, gropes, noogies, trouts, chitlins, wedgies, how you doin's all around.

Been busy lately.

Heya Cap'n. How you doing?

My creative juices are flowing again and I've been playing with some of my stories, along with making people in Poser (3d program, which means I just have to load a character and and adjust dials until they look like I want). I need to take them into Photoshop now.

I have to share a bit I wrote last November, that continues to crack me up. This is set in a ex-men (basically mutant) registration office. The vast majority of ex-men have a 'mark', usually - but not always - something like a birthmark, that can serve as identification.

Quote:
Squidhead goes up to Ellen's window. I see him played by Will Smith. He's a black youth, whose head looks like a compressed squid – the tentacles are only two or three inches long and the long arms are twice that. He's got the triangular top of the head. His head is orange.

Squidhead: Yeah. I'm an ex-man now or something.

She takes some paperwork from him.

Ellen: Alright. And what's your power?
Squidhead: I can breathe underwater.
Ellen: And your mark?

He looks at her like she's stupid.

Ellen: I'm sorry, but it's a required question.

He rolls his eyes.

Squidhead: I've got a squid for a head.

Hi, everyone!

I'm still alive. Currently in Austin, TX, staying with my best friend from high school - Rose the Great and Powerful. She was able to take two days off work, so we have been carousing and carrying on. Has been wunnerful.

We tried to see the bats leave Congress Street bridge last night, but the storm her husband promised would never reach us actually did. The bats stayed in, and we were drowned like rats. Did find a really great burger place, though.

I've spent a few days in Dallas and will return there tomorrow after seeing my best guy friend from high school. Plan on driving through some of the Hill Country instead of plowing straight through on I-35. Pretty country.

In the meantime, I've seen the Avengers twice and will be happy to see it a third time, given the chance. The younger brother has been very sweet and welcoming. The job market looks iffy.

I have, by turns, been thrilled, terrified, babbling with happiness, on the brink of a panic attack, smug, despairing, and thrilled/terrified all over again. I am husbanding my money, because what was plenty for a ten day trip is going to be very tight for a month's worth of expenses, minimum.

I did a google search for Texas teachers job, just out of morbid curiosity, and it turns out that Mass Mutual is actively recruiting teachers to be, I guess, financial advisors. I'm curious, because I've been the person in my family to point out things like a) home ownership = equity; b) second mortgage has lower interest rates than credit cards (ie get the second mortgage and pay off the damn cards), and c) for Og's sake, create a living trust so your property doesn't have to go through probate court. So, I'm good at the conceptual stuff, not so good at the day to day nitty gritty.

But, I went ahead and got a manicure with a conservative color of nail polish Just In Case.
