Well, Apparently I Have A "Diesease"

When did we coin this dumb term? I got a note yesterday and when I linked and shared it on FB, the hyperlink had it spelled that way. I thought it was a misspell and contacted the alzheimer site’s webmaster and my local office, letting them know what I found, and then, just for fun I did a google and there it was: diesease.

Now not only do I feel like an idiot, but I have a reminder within a word that I’m gonna croak from this, which I already knew.

Q

It’s not a coined word. It’s just a common typo.

You could call it a “dizeez.” Kind of catchy. Maybe. Uh.

Are you sure, Marley? Google sure did have a lot of diseases listed under that word.

Q

You think that’s bad–I once filled out an online form listing my occupation as “photo archivist,” and it came back as “photo antichrist.”

Or how about “dis-ease”. I sometimes get very much that way, Doug;)!

Q

When I google “diesease,” Google asks if I meant to type disease. The first hit is Urban Dictionary and there are only 139,000 hits total. There would be a lot more than that if it were a recognized word for a type of disease, and from what I can see, nobody’s using it to define a specific type of illness. It’s just an easy mistake to make, but it’s no fun to be reminded of your problems that way.

Ah. Okay. Well, that’s good. Maybe today won’t be such a “batshit” day after all!

Thanks, Marley.

Q

So, did you die from this diesease?

Not yet! Some days I do feel close, though, Drunky Smurf.

Q

How about “I’m suffering from a terrible ‘killness’”. Better?

Much better! I like it! Thanks, StaggerLee (one of my favorite tunes)

Q

It sounds like you’re trying to render how an uneducated person might say “disease”.

No, I thought it was someone being cute, Anne.

Q

Try to think of it this way: you’re not dying of it, you’re living with it.

(I mean, if you can call that living. Isn’t there some home for people with your condition, where, at least, the rest of us wouldn’t have to be confronted by your nauseating condition?)

Well, there’s hospice, but I’m only stage 4 and not ready to take up someone else’s bed.

Q

You know I was just kidding, Quasi.

Of course I do, Slithy! I like for y’all to kid with me.

Q

The disease I have wont be fatal, it will just completely incapacitate me until I beg for death.

A diesease is simply a disease that is very grave.
