Van Halen Cancels Summer Dates

http://www.rollingstone.com/music/ne...dates-20120517

I guess it was only a matter of time. Too bad, a friend saw them in April and raved about how good they were. If this is the end, what do they do now?

Well, it says "postponed" and not canceled.

Let's see how many conclusions we can all "Jump" to.

A source with knowledge of the tour tells Rolling Stone that Van Halen's members "hate each other." Adds the source, "The band is arguing like mad. They are fighting."
They hate each other? 3 of them are family!

Does that picture of the three of them suffer from forced perspective, or is Wolfgang really twice the size of his father?!

All the more reason to hate each other. If the Teutul clan can't get along, why should the Van Halens?

He might be on a short riser in that pic, but from what I can tell, young Wolfie looks like he eats well. This pic puts him a couple inches taller than his father.

Hey, Lumpy might dwarf his old man now, but just wait til he starts swan-diving into mountains of cocaine and smoking six packs a day. He'll shrink to normal size.

Not sure if there's another thread about it in general, but I listened to A Different Kind of Truth the other day, and it's not bad at all. Very much a return to the 'Diamond Dave' Van Halen days. Kind of makes me sad to think how little press this new album is getting (I'd never heard anything about it), cause if it had come out in '96 it would've been a smash!

I doubt I'll ever forgive them for booting Michael Anthony. He was there through all the other singers, and was always a constant. Just because Wolfgang got older, that does not make him a replacement for Anthony. He may play bass well, but he won't hit Michael's highs.

Well, if that magazine photo is anything to go by, EVH has returned from the dead. Saw a picture of him a few years ago and he looked like shit. Looks pretty decent for an old guy.

I don't think I even knew they had a new album. I'll have to check it out. Old school VH were so good. Master musicians but also music lovers and showmen. If they came within 100 miles of the ATX I'd check em out.

The thing with Michael Anthony was unfortunate, though.

You're probably thinking of this photo where he looks like an old homeless woman.

As to the tour postponement/cancellation, I suspect that Eddie's mouth and throat cancer is back. He claims that he got it from sticking a metal guitar pick in his mouth and being bathed in electromagnetic radiation while on stage. He also says that "cigarettes don't cause cancer" and he continues to smoke.

I've got the album and I like it. Apparently a number of the songs are based on material they developed back at the beginning of the bands career (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Different_Kind_of_Truth). This would explain why it sounds more like their older material.

I remember when I finally got around to buying their first Greatest Hits album, the one made right when Sammy split. I had very little hope for the new stuff with Dave (I liked the old stuff, but liked the Sammy albums more), so I was amazed at how great Me Wise Magic and Can't Get This Stuff No More sounded! Made me realize that a Dave reunion would have been more than just a publicity stunt.

And Michael Anthony's high-pitched backing vocals are sorely missed on the new album. Sucked how he was the Rodney Dangerfield of the band (except to Hagar)...

That photo looks like what I imagine Charlie Sheen will look like in a few years.

Wasn't there another even worse, more close-up photo of him around that time? You could see that his teeth were all rotten, which made everyone assume that he was smoking meth.

If they hadn't booted him we'd never have had Chickenfoot!

I don't have the new album but have heard 2 singles from it and don't care for eitehr of them.
