I dunno, Chris Klein never struck me as being the sharpest tool in the shed. It could be he doesn't understand what sex is.

I don't think Donnie Osmond would have waited five years before going to bed with a girlfriend. Chris Klein is either gay, impotent, or a man of superhuman patience, or else Katie was either lying about the virgin part or else defining virgin by very liberal standards.
The real question is, when did she make the virgin announcement? because honestly, the only famous 90s virgin that I remember was Britney Spears. And, IIRC, she later admitted that she and Justin Timberlake were having loads of sex during their relationship.

Van Derbeek also was part of plot altering episodes of both my favorite sitcom AND drama!

Sitcom: Dumped Robin, leading to the 1 nite stand with Barney that wrecked (for a time) his friendship with Ted

Drama: Kidnapped Reid, and in the process of torturing him, got him addicted to Diludid.

There's crazier theories than that out there. I've heard people claim that L. Ron Hubbard had his sperm frozen and it was used to impregnate Holmes.

Jessica Simpson as well. And from the NBA, A C Green was prominent in saying that he would start and finish his basketball career as a virgin.

And the craziest thing is that Simpson, Green, Spears, and Holmes all lost their virginity to Justin Timberlake in the same 24 hour period.

Her second miscarriage was while they were separated. (She claims to have had an earlier one.) While I know it wouldn't be the first or last time that an estranged couple conceived a child, given the other oddities about Cruise I wouldn't be floored to learn that one wasn't his.
She (bizarrely, I always thought) announced she had kept some of the genetic material from her miscarriage in order that it could be DNA tested to prove it was Cruise's child.

Good for Katie. I hope she can get back into acting. I thought she was pretty good in Go, The Gift, Pieces of April and Thank You for Smoking and I'd like to see her do well.

Suri hasn't appeared one time in public since the day she was born without the paparazzi swarming all over, and you're taking a few random things and judging her entire upbringing? That's even more disturbing.

No. Mimi Rogers converted him to $cientology, and I'll never forgive her, even though she herself has since left the cult.

I'm no film snob either* and I'm as anti-$cientology as you can possibly imagine, but I can think of several. I hate that the man's a cult dupe, but I really do like him as an actor. I haven't seen everything he's done, I've missed some major ones in fact (I've never seen Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, Born on the 4th of July, Interview with a Vampire, A Few Good Men, The Outsiders, Vanilla Sky and a few others), but of the ones I've seen, I thought these were good movies that he was especially good in:

Risky Business
The Color of Money
Rain Man
Magnolia (he was GREAT in this)
Minority Report
Collateral
Tropic Thunder

These might be more guilty pleasure than great movies, but I enjoyed:

Far and Away
The Firm
War of the Worlds
Eyes Wide Shut

And, taking Guilty Pleasure to the extreme, Cruise is an absolute hoot as the addled, alcohol-dimmed diva in Rock of Ages. He's hilarious, the best thing about the movie.

I do like him, and I just wish he'd come to his senses and denounce that brainwashing bunch of thugs.

* Ok, I am to the fella who Pitted me for being one, but he's wrong.

Eh, does she really need to see Vanilla Sky? And Top Gun is mostly just a joke about the oblivious homoeroticism of the 80s at this point. And the less said about Jerry Macguire the better (God, I hate that movie). She should also make sure to miss Cocktail and Days of Thunder.

I know! The only ones I've wanted to see are Vampire (for Brad and Kirsten though) and A Few Good Men (just so I know wtf "You can't handle the truth!" is about in context).

And Erdosain, you'll be pleased to know that Cocktail and Days Of Thunder are among the others I haven't seen.

Unless you feel like you need to be punished for something horrible that you've done, do not watch Cocktail or Days of Thunder. They are unbelievably bad.

They may not be great films, but considering how many movies she watches it seems like famous classics like those should at least be seen. Though I've never seen Jerry Maguire either.

That's not entirely true - they feature a couple of excellent performances from supporting actors Bryan Brown and Robert Duvall, respectively.

No supporting actor performance can save those movies. Cocktail is probably one of the worst movies I've ever had the misfortune of seeing. My wife still has both of these on VHS.

I would recommend watching The Outsiders if only for the novelty of seeing the cast before many of them became much bigger stars. And Cruise's role is pretty small.

I highly recommend Interview with the Vampire. That is the only Tom Cruise movie I've seen aside from Tropic Thunder and he was good enough in his role that I frequently forget that he was in it. Not that his performance was forgettable, I mean that as in he played the role well enough that I watched the movie thinking of him as "Lestat" not "Tom Cruise in vampire fangs."

Anyway- I feel bad for Suri not only for her odd lifestyle and parents divorcing, but because it seems like she's likely to become a pawn in the proceedings which is awful.

Yes, it is, compared to Scientology. At least Scientology can be traced back to who made it up and why.

This is Cafe Society, not Great Debates. Start a new thread there if you want to discuss the pros and cons of any particular religion.

Everyone, please stay on topic. Tom Cruise is obviously the best-known Scientologist out there [sic], and it may well be that religious differences are a factor in this divorce, but Scientology qua Scientology is not the issue here.

Thanks,

I had NO idea she was a virgin when she did that scene, and yes, that was by far the best part of the movie and the only scene i can remember.

It might come down to a definition of "virginity". My college girlfriend called herself a virgin until marriage too, but we did everything [EVERYTHING] except penis-in-vagina sex.

Not to be a prude, silenus, but I had to report the link for the "two click" rule. No junior modding intended.

I read today that she's divorcing Cruise because he wants to sent the 6-year old to some something called "Sea Operations" - some sort of Scientology boot camp. That's why she's going for legal custody.

I don't blame her one little bit. I don't have kids but if I did no one would be taking her away from me to go to some nutjob religious camp. Especially at so early an age.

It's actually the Sea Org, a place where people have to sign billion (yes, BILLION) year contracts to serve. Ex Scientologists have come out left and right, telling stories of effectively being slaves on the Sea Org ship- they suffer abuse (physical and mental), are starved, and just generally have a bad time. I once saw a documentary that said Greece (I believe it was Greece) had banned the Scientology ship from docking there, because one time when it did, a woman tried to get off of the ship, screaming and begging for help . . . only to be dragged back on by large men. Apparently this freaked out the people of the city bad enough that the government banned the ship from coming back.

Rather than help the woman...sigh.

That's right up at the top of my "To Do" list when I'm a bazillionaire - send a hit squad to take down every boat, ship and dinghy Scientology has. Rescue squads on the high seas, followed by the scuttling of the ships along with their crews. Then drop the victims off on a beach somewhere safe with instructions on how to get help.

Then vanish back into the seas......
