Nerd find: During the scene in Bespin when Chewbacca is getting the pieces of C3PO back, IG-88 can be seen sitting in a pile of trash.

Easily one of the most interesting characters with no lines in a film is the katana-wielding "ninja" in the 1967 James Bond film You Only Live Twice. You see him go through his kata at the "ninja training school", which is impressive, but then he goes through it again, in ninja garb, in Blofeld's SPECTRE lair in the volcano, taking out half a dozen SPECTRE goons. If you watch it in a theater, there's always an audible audience reaction after the second run-through.

A slightly larger role than what the OP calls for but the character Wedge in Star Wars is memorable because he had the same tiny role in the next two movies. And then apparently went on to become a major character in the books.
It wasn't until years later I realized that Denis Lawson was the same actor who appeared as Gordon Urquhart in one of my favorite movies, Local Hero. And he happens to be the uncle of Obiwan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). |

- Does Robert Blake's weird scene in Lost Highway count, or is it too long?
- The cashier in the store, in Paper Moon, that Addie was pulling a scam on with her $10 bill she claimed she got for her birthday from her aunt. The cashier got chewed out by her boss for questioning the tactics of the 'poor little girl' who only wanted the proper change! She looked frightened, jobs were hard to come by during the depression as much as they are today... |

"Go f*ck yourself"
Great scene!Wondering if Kevin Costner counts as the body(Alex) in The Big Chill? Been years since I watched it but I think you get a glimpse of part of him. "Nice night for a walk.. eh?" Though he has more than one line(3 I think).Bill Paxton in The Terminator Last edited by MadTheSwine; 08-02-2012 at 03:47 PM. |

There is a scene in "Birth of a Nation" where one of the women, probably Lillian Gish,is trying to get "The Great Heart" (Abraham Lincoln) to issue an order to prevent the wounded southern "Little Colonel" from being shot. In the hospital a sentry memorably ogles her. IMDB lists the actor as William Freeman, who was in a total of four movies.

Character not important to a plot? Okay, he's got more than one line, but they could have cut the whole scene. He stole the movie.
Glengary Glen Ross. The guy who says "Coffee is for closers." |

Umm no..That (lengthy) scene makes the entire movie and comes nowhere close to fitting the OP's question.

Happy Gilmore -- Adam Sandler takes the girl to a skating rink. The Endless Love duet by Lionel Richie and Diana Ross plays. The zamboni guy is mouthing the words.

Joker: How can you shoot women and children like that? Gunner: Give 'em a longer lead time. Ha ha! Ain't war hell? Also: The Three Stooges' cameo in It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and Michael O'Donoghue in Manhattan. Oh, and Marshall MacLuhan in Annie Hall! |

It came on some cable channel tonight so I watched that scene carefully. The boy seen on camera appears to be doing some mighty fancy fretwork if he's not actually playing.

Edie McGlurg in Planes, Trains, and Automobiles has one scene with just a couple of lines, if I recall correctly. It's been a long time since I've seen the movie. I don't remember the scene being integral to the plot. I do remember "You're fucked."

There's also the shopkeeper from later in the movie. Tuco goes in just as he's trying to close up, puts together a revolver out of the best pieces, tries it out, and then robs the store with the same gun. Was going to nominate him, but I found a clip online and he has a few more lines of dialog than I remembered. |

How about the girl that the old guy saw once, for a minute, in his youth, and yet never a day goes by that he doesn't think of her? She's not even onscreen once in the movie, yet she's famous!

I've mentioned her in a thread before, but the teenage daughter of Robert deNiro's character in Midnight Run. She only has a couple of one-word answers and then a sentence where she tries to give her babysitting money to her dad. Maybe it doesn't count because from the first time we see her to our last glimpse of her is about three minutes, but I think it's very memorable.

Also Sean Connery in the Robin Hood with Costner only has a couple lines, doesn't he? |

You're right — they could have cut the whole scene. It never appeared in the play. David Mamet wrote the scene for the movie, and (IIRC) specifically for Alec Baldwin.
