Back in the long ago days when I was a senior in high school I was making the pies for Christmas dinner, and I had a tasty sounding recipe for sour cream mincemeat pie with a meringue shell. The year was 1977 and I was bent on impressing my grandmother with my baking skills. Unfortunately on the day alcohol was ruling the adult’s behaviors and we ended up leaving abruptly before dinner* was served, and my pies ended up hostages.
Life passed and I have on occasion remembered the sour cream mince pie with a meringue shell, and have wished I still had the recipe. After talking with my sister over Thanksgiving and reminiscing about the untasted pie I decided to see if I could google the recipe. I find sour cream mince with regular crust recipes, and recipes for meringue shells, but none that go together. (As I recall the filling was not baked.) I could make some test pies, but it crossed my mind to tap into the SDMB first.
So, Dopers, any ideas or recipes you would care to share?
*That Christmas dinner ended up being pizza, which made my heart sad.
