Songs about reading?

Do you know any?

Preferably not children’s songs but that would be OK, but I’d like a song about the joy of reading a good book.

T.Rex - Spaceball Ricochet
Husker Du - Books About UFOs

Moxy Fruvous - My Baby Loves A Bunch Of Authors

Which you probably never heard of. Canadian band that had a few songs on the radio here.

Butterfly in the skyyyyyy…

“Wonderful World”:

“I Am a Rock”:

“Dangling Conversation”:

Funny that the first three I thought of were Simon and Garfunkel songs…

This is exactly the song that jumped into my mind.

The list of authors she loves is freakishly Canadian, too.

One more vote for Moxy Fruvous – perhaps they’re not as obscure as we think they are, despite having broken up in 2001. Then again, if there is any demographic I know of that would overlap with Fruheads, it’s Dopers.

Lots of songs about specific books… “Starship Troopers” by Yes, “Sirens of Titan” by Al Stewart, “Return to Pooh Corner” by Kenny Loggins, “Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” by Leonard Nimoy… Okay, I’m coming up dry now.

Here’s a song that seems tailor made for this question - Ed Hall - Reading.

Bitches in Bookshops (based on Kanye West and Jay Z’s N*ggas in Paris)

The Doodlebops - “take a look” inside a book. Obviously, it’s geared to kids but it’s catchy and enjoyable and my kids loved most of their songs. “Bird is the word” is a particular favorite.

“If you could read my mind”… “what a tale my thoughts would tell, just like a paperback novel” … maybe this doesn’t quite fit the criteria, but it popped into my head.

Van Morrison in Cleaning Windows sings:

I heard Leadbelly and Blind Lemon
On the street where I was born
Sonny Terry, Brownie Mcghee,
Muddy Waters singin’ ‘I’m a rolling stone,’
I went home and read my Christmas Humphreysbook on Zen
Curiosity killed the cat
Kerouac’s Dharma Bums and On The Road

Paperback Writer by The Beatles (well, duh…)

“Virginia Woolf” by Indigo Girls:

They published your diary
And that’s how i got to know you
The key to the room of your own and a mind without end
And here’s a young girl
On a kind of a telephone line through time
And the voice at the other end comes like a long lost friend
So i know i’m all right
Life will come and life will go
Still i feel it’s all right
Cause i just got a letter to my soul
And when my whole life is on the tip of my tongue
Empty pages for the no longer young
The apathy of time laughs in my face
You say “each life has its place”

One I forgot was Fuck Me Ray Bradbury.

I’m leaning towards My Baby Loves a Bunch of Authors and Bitches in Bookshops.

Julian Smith - I’m Reading a Book

Diary by Bread?

Rage of Thrones

I remembered this one on my way home from work and figured someone would have posted it by the time I got here.
