Don't cross Bryan Adams..or he'll go after your website

This forum post mentions Bryan Adams has gotten his reviews pulled from All Music Guide, by his request. A little later on it mentions he’s gone after any website that posts any of his recordings. First on, how on earth can any artist force websites to pull their reviews? And of all the musicians you can think of, why is Bryan Adams so web adverse? (I know Prince is nearly as hawkish against websites, but does anything Prince does surprise you?)

The debate is whether Bryan Adams asked them to pull one review or all of them. And if they deleted his entire entry to avoid allowing the subject of an article to dictate the content of a review site.

Either way, this was a breathtaking stupid move on his part. As verious posters pointed out, the AllMusicGuide is a vital source of content for retail music sites, and pissing them off can only backfire.

Total speculation, but what probably happened is something like this: Adams sends a lawyergram claiming copyright and/or trademark infringement, perhaps on his bio photo or album covers or something like that, and trying to use that as leverage to get specific negative reviews taken down. AMG knows it’s a bogus claim, but to avoid the legal costs of fighting it, and also to discourage others from trying the same, they remove everything.

It’s possible the complaint didn’t come from Adams himself, but from consultants hired to do “reputation management”.

He has the legal right to have sites take his recordings down; it’s a copyright violation. He has no right to require reviews be taken down. AMG probably caved to avoid trouble.

So Bryan Adams and Ryan Adams are BOTH dicks? Makes keeping them straight a lot easier.

People who can’t keep their dicks straight end up pissing on the walls.

So as far as the All Music Guide is concerned Bryan Adams no longer exists? Quick encourage a bunch of other musicians I don’t particularly care for to do the same thing!

Do they have to change their name to the All Except Bryan Adams Music Guide?

Not really “caving”…more like burning the place down. Caving would have been removing the critical reviews, or substituting more positive ones. That would have been some serious spelunking.

Those reviews must have cut like a knife!
