McDonalds/Burger King/etc. have the habit of putting the thermal paper reciept in contact with the ordered food. Its known that Thermal paper is made of many hideous chemicals - Check it out at - http://msds.pdc.cornell.edu/msds/siri/msds/h/q104/q161.html.
Also, see that the Thermal Paper Manufacturer says - “Work Hygienic Practices: FOLLOW NORMAL HYGIENIC PRACTICES. WASH THOROUGHLY AFTER HANDLING & BEFORE EATING FOOD & DRINKING BEVERAGES.”
Why are we eating chemicals - as if fast food was not bad enuf ??

Besides, most of the time the only unwrapped food at a fast food place is the french fries. And I’d wager that chowing down on the thermal paper would probably be healthier than eating the fries.
Why not? After all, food itself is made of chemicals.
I agree with Smack. After eating all that grease and the heart clogging fatty meal, thermal paper is the least of your worries. You’ll get a heart attack way before you get poisoned.
Not to mention that most fast food places don’t use thermal printers.
